Phyllis Simmons Obituary

Phyllis Jean (LaRue) Simmons went to be with the Lord on August 25, 2021. She was born on May 25, 1940 in Alderson, WV.

Jean, fondly known as Jeannie, was a member of Tidewater Primitive Baptist Church and she worked as a school secretary for Virginia Beach Public Schools. She was a devoted Navy wife and loving mother who absolutely adored her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband of 63 years, Willis Simmons; children, Julie Snyder and Howard Simmons II; grandchildren, Emily Martin, Rachel Cuninghame, and Carl Simmons; great-grandchildren, Abigail and Luke Martin; brother, Robert S. LaRue III; aunt, Betty Myles; and a host of other family and friends.

We will miss her sweet smile and spunky spirit. We know that she is rejoicing with our Lord and is totally healed.

The family invites friends to pay respects on Tuesday, August 31, 2021, from 6-8 pm at Graham Funeral Home, 1112 Kempsville Rd., Chesapeake. A graveside service to celebrate Jean's life will be held on Wednesday, September 1, 2021, at 2 pm at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, 5310 Milners Rd, Suffolk.
