Robert Hewitt Obituary

Robert Linwood Hewitt Sr

Virginia Beach - Bob/Bobby/Pop was promoted into the loving arms of Jesus his personal Savior on Good Friday, April 18, 2014 at the age of 76. He was born June 24, 1937 to his loving parents Dick Hewitt and Violet Vellines Hewitt. During his younger days, prior to being called the City of Virginia Beach, before the roads were paved, his family lived in the old Princess Anne County. That is where he found the love of his life and future wife, Eva. He knew he couldn't catch her with little in his pockets, so he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1956 where he graduated from boot camp in Parris Island, SC and served at Camp Lejeune, NC for 3 years attaining the rank of Sergeant. Bob married his sweetheart on Aug. 24, 1956. Their 1st child, Robert Jr. was born to them while in the USMC. He and his newly formed family returned to their home in Virginia Beach for the remainder of his life. Bob worked as an electrician and eventually became a master plumber which he remained for nearly 50 yrs. First working for Sparky's Plumbing, putting plumbing in many of the original hotels at the oceanfront. Eventually he started his own company, Virginia Beach Plumbing and Heating which he changed the name after many years to R.L.Hewitt & Sons Plumbing,Inc. to allow for his sons Bob, Jr. and David to join him in the business. Pop was an avid sportsman, baseball, softball player and coach. He was always supporting his children's and grandchildren's sports programs, whether coaching little league baseball teams, AllStars, AAU, the football and wrestling program's at Va Beach Jr. High and Cox HS. He was well respected and loved for his devotion to all the kids. He was known for always bringing enough food for everyone to eat! Most of all Bob was a devout Christian. Everyone knew of his faith and love for Christ Jesus and if they didn't, he would be sure to tell them. His call into ministry as a worship leader was his joy and passion.. He served many churches and pastors through the years and many were touched by the Big Guy up front leading many into God's presence. He led worship at many venues including gatherings at the old Virginia Beach Dome. Everyone loved Bobby. He was a people person, constantly giving of himself, his money and his time to so many family, friends, strangers, churches;never asking for nothing in return but their friendship. He was a true servant with a servant's heart. Bob is survived by his wife, Eva and his children, Bobby Jr. (Joanne), Cheryl Isaksen (Fred), David (Charlene), adopted son, Randy Barnes (Barb). 11 grandchildren- Bobby lll (Rebekah), Heidi (Shaun), David Jr. (Chessy), Kristen (Anthony), Teresa, Heather (Jared), Julie, Jonathan, Jessica, Hannah and Haley. Also 6 great grandchildren- Christian, Kloe, MacKayla, Caleb, Eliana, and David lll. 3 Sisters- Helen Tatum, Frances Ambrose (Kenneth), Violet Hart. 2 sisters in law- Billie Argabright (Versal) and Gail Linden. He is predeceased by his parents and 2 sisters/husbands, Nellie Sparks (Forrest) and Lillie Hines (Garland) and 2 brother in laws- Frank Tatem and Kenneth Hart. After 57 yrs of marriage, his love and devotion to his wife Eva was as strong as it was the day they 1st fell in love. Their love was an example not only for their children but to all who knew them. Pop, we will forever be grateful for your love, life, & example to us all. You're already missed, but we know you're in the arms of your beloved Savior and those of us who are His will see you again. We love you! "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of one of HIs saints" (Psalms 116:15) The Celebration of Life Service will be Wed. April 23,2014 at 2:00PM Calvary Assembly of God. 4925 Providence Rd. Virginia Beach, VA 23456. In lieu of flowers, contributions suggested to the family

I met Mr. Hewitt on the ball field and always looked forward to seeing him there. He was a spiritual and most wonderful man and to see him and his lovely bride together, just set the bar for what we should all aspire to be. He will be greatly missed and I send my heartfelt condolences to the family. I know he will be missed dearly, he touched so many lives....thank you for sharing him with all of us.

Many prayers to the family, Pop will be greatly missed. Pop and David coached my oldest son in baseball and we had the best time! Also, I am a Hewitt, and the family tree is long. Pop was one of the sweetest men I have ever met. Always had a cheerful personality and love for his family and all the children around him. My heart is heavy, but glad he is no longer in pain. I wish I could be there today to see everyone, but you will be in my prayers. Love you all!!

He certainly touched my life! I did not know him long, but I knew him deep (or rather he knew me deep) and I was struck by his unconditional love and generosity. He personified the Christian ideal of knowing someone, not by the flesh, but by the spirit. He had a way of embracing me like his son, and he to was to me, like a father. I miss him. RIP

Uncle Bobby, You will be missed. I never saw you when you didn't have a big smile on your face...even when you weren't well. Rest in Peace!

May God bless you and your family at this difficult time. My mom Marjie Hickey sends her condolences. She told me she knew Bob and said he was sure a good man and he helped her out when she needed it. Mom said to tell Eva Estell how sorry she is. Mom can`t come to visitation. She has trouble walking very far. She will be thinking of you and your family. Love, Marjie and Conney
