Dr. Robert Ward leaves to cherish his memories, wife, Mary Nottingham Ward; younger sister, Doris Theresa Benson (Louis); two brothers-in-law, Wardell Nottingham (Shirley) and John Walter Nottingham; four sisters-in-law, Naomi N. Bailey, Delores N. Lindsey, Helen N. Ames and Barbara A. Ward; special son and nephew, Craig Nottingham (Wanda) and a host of nephews and nieces.
A Memorial Service will be held at Howell Funeral Home, located at 10220 Gilford Rd, Jessup, MD 20794, on Thursday, March 11, 2021, 6:00-7:00pm; Open Viewing, 4:00-7:00pm. A Celebration of Life will be held at Howell Funeral Home on Friday, March 12, 2021 at 11:00am; Open Viewing 10:30-11:00am. Eulogist will be Pastor Dr. Tyrone Jones, IV, of First Baptist Church of Guilford. The Interment and Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, March 13, 2021 at 11:00am at the First Baptist Church Capeville located at 25283 Lankford Hwy, Cape Charles, VA 23310. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to "Bowie State University Fine and Performing Arts Dr. Robert Ward Scholarship Fund."

I sadness came over me when I saw this email honoring Dr. Bob Ward one year since his passing. The first time when I saw it was bad enough. The second time was as depressing reminding me of his passing the year before.
Dr. Bob Ward and I were professors in the Fine & Performing Art Department at Bowie State University for several years. We were also in the Doctoral Program for the Ph.D. Degree at the University of Maryland, College Park, MD during the early 1980s. I graduated with the Ph.D. degree in 1985 and he graduated some time later, possibly the next year, I do not recall.
Bob was a kind, warm and friendly professional who represented Bowie State University well. He was considerate, outgoing and respectful at all times. More people should be like Dr. Bob Ward.
Although I had not seen him for years before he passed, I had thought about him professionally always with high esteem for him and Bowie State University.
I wish his wife and family well. They should know that Dr. Bob Ward was respected, admired and appreciated by this particular faculty member for his outstanding work as a professor at the distinguished Bowie State University . I will always remember him. He was pleasant, delightful and funny and I always held him in high esteem.

Dr. Robert Ward and I served on the faculty together at Bowie State University during the 1980s. We were also doctoral students for the Ph.D. Degree at the University of Maryland during that same period. Bob was a professional in every sense of the word and an inspiration to all both students and faculty. Surely, he will be missed by all who knew him. Adios my friend. Rest in peace.
