Robert Wilson Obituary

Robert "Bob" Marion Wilson M.D. of Virginia Beach, passed away at home on October 11, 2023, with his family by his side. He was born on July 17, 1937, in Washington, D.C. Bob is survived by his wife of 56 years, Carol Ann Wilson, daughter Dawn Wilson Grunwald (Tim) of Virginia Beach, son Robert Montgomery Wilson (Marcia) of Leesburg, VA., grandchildren John, James and Annie Grunwald, and Robert and Juliana Wilson. He was predeceased by his youngest daughter Leigh Ann Wilson and his parents Helen Fauver Wilson and Roger Montgomery Wilson.

Bob graduated from George Washington University with a Bachelor of Science in zoology. He earned his Doctor of Medicine degree and completed his medical internship at George Washington University Medical School. He finished his residency in internal medicine and fellowship in renal disease at The District of Columbia General Hospital. Bob also served in the United States Naval Reserve as LTCDR Medical Officer at Naval Air Station Oceana.

Board-certified in internal medicine and nephrology, Bob was an Associate Professor of Medicine at Eastern Virginia Medical School and a founding partner in Nephrology Associates of Tidewater. Bob was admired and respected by his colleagues and patients for his clinical acumen, intellect, dry sense of humor and kind, compassionate demeanor. He never refused a phone call when asked for medical advice.

Faith and family were the driving forces in Bob's life. He was devoted to his wife Carol and was a wonderful husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather and friend. He loved his children and grandchildren. Favorite pastimes included spending time together watching sports on TV, playing games, drawing, and most especially, engaging in deep conversations about the world and nature. Bob enjoyed fishing, boating, traveling with Carol and sitting on the back porch watching the sunset and the birds as they flew by. He was passionate about the environment and the role we must play in keeping that gift from God protected.

Bob was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church where he was a confirmation sponsor and member of the Environmental Working Group.

A memorial mass for Bob will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, November 4, 2023, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, 712 Little Neck Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23452. Following a private interment in the St. Nicholas columbarium, a reception will be held in the church social hall celebrating his life.
