Roger Howell Cahoon

SUFFOLK- Roger Cahoon, 75, died September 20, 2022. A native of South Norfolk Chesapeake, he was the son of the late Edward Ray and Virginia Bray Cahoon. Roger is survived by his wife of 52 years, Margaret Kieffer Cahoon, brother, Edward Ray Cahoon, Jr., and numerous cousins, including Anne Howell Maheu.

Roger was a retired dentist who graduated from Oscar Frommel Smith High School in 1965 and the College of William and Mary in 1969. He received his Doctor of Dental Surgery from The Medical College of Virginia in 1973. A member of the Virginia Dental Society, he practiced in Portsmouth for 35 years. Prior to joining Dr. Stoney Hill in his dental practice in 1970, Roger served seven years in the United States Navy in the Dental Corps stationed at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard for three years and Roosevelt Roads Naval Station for four years. He was a Lieutenant Commander.

He enjoyed travel, landscape design and gardening. Several of his gardens were featured during Virginia Garden Week and publications including Country Gardens Magazine. Roger was devoted to his family, his patients, and his gardens. He enjoyed the companionship of several special dogs and one unique cat.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, Sept. 30, at 2 PM at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Bennetts Creek Chapel, North Suffolk. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to your local food bank or a charity of your choice. www.SturtevantFH.com
