Roy Ash Obituary

Roy F. Ash Jr. PORTSMOUTH - Roy Fillmore "Dusty" Ash Jr., 87, of Harbor's Edge, Norfolk, passed away Sept. 28, 2011 in a Norfolk hospital. Mr. Ash, a native of Clarksburg, W.Va., was an alumnus of The College of William and Mary and retired in 1982 as a sales executive from the Eskimo Pie Division of Reynolds Metal Corp. He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, a former member of the Portsmouth Kiwanis Club and volunteered at the Portsmouth Public Library. He was proud to have served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and retired as a commander from the U.S. Naval Reserve. Survivors include his wife, Alice P. "Mitch" Ash; a son, David S. Ash and wife Joanna of Chesterfield, Va.; grandchildren, Michael, Jennifer and Tara Ash; daughter-in-law, Kaye Ash of Richmond; a stepdaughter, Elizabeth H. Munford and husband John and their children, Sarah, Will and Jack, all of Virginia Beach; a stepson, William S. Hargroves of Portsmouth; two sisters, Rose Anne Welch of Morgantown, W.Va., Carolyn Gillespie of Colonial Heights, Va.; and a brother, John Ash and wife Amelia of Bridgeport, W.Va. He was predeceased by a son, Thomas M. Ash; and an infant daughter, Carolyn Anne Ash. A graveside service will be held at noon Monday, Oct. 3, in Olive Branch Cemetery, Portsmouth. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The College of William and Mary Foundation, P.O. Box 1693, Williamsburg, VA 23187-1693 or The Alzheimer's Association, 6350 Center Drive, Suite 102, Norfolk, VA 23502. Foster Funeral Home, Portsmouth, is assisting the family.
