Teresa Barkley Obituary
Chesapeake - Teresa "Terry" Lynn Barkley went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Christmas Day, December 25, 2014 at her home. She graduated from Virginia Tech in 1975 and was known as an exceptional mentor throughout her life. Whether within her family, friendships, Community Church, or her career as a Director of Interns at OCHR Norfolk, Terry always saw other's needs and shared with them her wisdom, compassion and love. Many followed Terry's journey through breast cancer and were inspired by her unwavering faith in Jesus Christ. She modeled kindness and generosity to those around her never complaining about her own suffering but instead prayed and encouraged others by her thoughtfulness, smile, positive attitude and care.
She is survived by her husband Paul E. Barkley of Chesapeake; parents Ronald B. and Janet Ward of Newport News, children, Jennifer L. Blevins married to Tyler of VA Beach; brother Ronald L. Ward married to Vickie of Wylie, TX and sister, Suzanne Chrisman married to Bryan of Denver, CO.
A funeral service will be held at Community Church at 1935 Jolliff Road, Chesapeake, VA 23321 on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at 1:00 PM. A viewing will also be held at Sturtevant Funeral home on Monday, December 29, 2014 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Community Church Women's Ministry, and condolences may be registered at www.SturtevantFuneralHome.com.

Mrs. Terry Barkley was an amazing mentor and an inspiration to everyone she met. I will forever remember her for her smile and welcoming, sunny disposition. When, I first met Terry she had a smile on her face that would make you feel so much better just being in her present. The smile remain until the day she retired. I will miss that smile and the love she shared with me. To the family my prayers are with you.

What a lover of Jesus Christ Terry was and now she is dancing with Him in a more beautiful place, more amazing than we can comprehend. My heart is breaking at the loss of my beautiful friend. There are no words. She will be forever in my heart. There is a star that was given to her as a present and to me that was a wonderful gift to her because she was that light that shined on all of us. We were made better by her love for us and she will forever be our sweet Terry. For the rest of my life, I will miss her. She was my friend.
