Thelma Garrington Bright

Thelma G. Bright, age 97, of Norfolk, died Tuesday, November 6, 2018. A native of Jarvisburg, N.C., she graduated in 1940 from Poplar Branch High School. She was the daughter of the late William Henry and Sallie Morrisette Garrenton. She was preceded in death by her husband Albert Owens Bright, her brother, Pierce Griggs Garrenton, and sister, Charlotte Garrenton Elder. She is survived by her daughter Susan Bright Duggins and husband William (Bill) Duggins, Jr., son Gary Wilson Bright and wife Margaret and two special grandchildren, Anna Bright Wogan and husband Jason and Albert Owens Bright, II, and wife Lindsay, and sister-in-law Ruth B. Crain, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She and her family were active members of Park Place Baptist Church for many years and later moved to Talbot Park Baptist. She was employed with C & P Telephone Co. during World War II, worked 25 years at the Algonquin House and volunteered for over 25 years along with her good friend Mary Elliot for Mobile Meals of Norfolk. The funeral will be conducted at 2:00 PM Saturday, November 10th in the Tidewater Drive Chapel of Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at 1:00 PM Saturday, November 10th in the funeral home chapel.
