Timothy Van Fossen Obituary

Timothy Van Fossen

Virginia Beach - Timothy Corey Van Fossen of Virginia Beach passed away on Sunday, July 30, 2017, at home with his family after a valiant battle with cancer. Tim was born on December 22, 1965, to Thomas and Myrna Van Fossen in Portsmouth, VA. He retired from Norfolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority after 27 years of service. Tim's greatest joys were his "girls" and family. He loved fishing, woodworking, and cooking.

To cherish his memory, Tim leaves behind his wife, Wendy Cudworth VanFossen, daughters Caitlin Van Fossen and Victoria (Paul) Latimer, brothers Thomas (Ellen) and Theodore (Sabrina), and many nieces, nephews, cousins and phenomenal friends.

There will be a celebration of life on Saturday, August 5, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Michael Lutheran Church. All are welcome at a reception immediately following the service at the Van Fossen home. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Michael Lutheran Church, 2208 Princess Anne Road, Virginia Beach, VA for a special project in Tim's honor.

I unfortunately will not be able attend Tim's service as my flight gets in late tomorrow night but wanted to leave a few words here. What can I say... Tim taught me so much in the short six years I knew him and I will be forever grateful for his guidance & friendship. In those years we spent more time with each other at work than we did with our families and we would often share stories about our families and he was especially proud of all of his girls accomplishments and the wonderful life that he and Wendy had built. We would often joke about how lucky we were to have married far above our stations and how undeserving we were of the incredible women in our lives.
His leadership, guidance and friendship will be sorely missed. His fight to the end was inspiring and he always kept a sense of humor. See you in Valhalla my friend!

Wendy, so sorry to hear this. I didn't know your husband but he sounds like a great person and someone who left us way too soon. My thoughts and prayers are with you and the VanFossen family. Prayers for strength and peace for all of you. I had planned to attend the funeral but I will have to miss it. I am sorry for that but I do want you to know Doug and I will be with you in spirit. In my oldest memories of cousin Tim, he was two years old. He had been stung by a bee. In order to distract Tim from his discomfort, his dad demonstrated how a bee stings with sound effects and humor. Tim repeated the demonstration on anybody available. He was very cute and adorable and everyone competed for HIS attention during the several days we stayed at Tom and Myrna's (Tommy and Timmy's) home.

Tim will always be in our treasured memories of the many family cruises we took together. The girls met by chance and our families became friends. We are blessed to have known Tim. Our hearts, thoughts and prayers go out to Wendy, Caity, Tori and family.

Wendy, Caity and Tori, I can not find words to express my grief and sorrow. Tim was one of the best men I have ever known. He leaves behind many fond memories and three wonderful women.

Hello family, Sorry to say I will be out of town to attend the celebration of Tim's life so I thought I would just say a few words of my gratitude to have known Tim and my condolences. I was a co worker and friend of Tim here at "CMD" ever since he started his work at NRHA. Tim would always use my office as a pathway to his supervisors office and of course it would go without saying that we would exchanged a few family stories of the day. Every story began with some milestone of the children from birth to present and a pic or two! It was obvious Tim had a wonderful outlook on life and how proud he was of his girls; all three of them!
My condolences, Paul

Tim was a great friend and co-worker. While I will miss his kindness and his great sense of humor, it is his friendship I will miss the most. Godspeed, Tim, until we meet again. You finally have paradise...your friend always, Rob P.
