Tom Waller Sr.

Thomas Nelson Waller, Sr. passed away peacefully, at home, with his family beside him on Friday, July 1, 2022. Tom leaves behind two children, two step children and five grandchildren: Tom Waller, Jr. and his wife Mary and their child Sarah, Mary Allen Waller, Taylor Dunn Kelly and her husband Michael and their two children Eamon and Cecilia and Wilcox Dunn and his wife Elizabeth and their two children Lelia and Maddie.

Born in Christiansburg, VA, on October 10,1930, Tom spent his childhood years in Blacksburg, VA and later graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute (Va. Tech) as a very proud Hokie. His ROTC experience at VPI led him to a decades long career in the U.S. Army Reserves, ultimately retiring as a full Colonel. Tom started his family and his business career in Lynchburg, VA. While in Lynchburg for more than twenty years, he held various management roles at Babcox & Wilcox, WLVA, Lynchburg Chamber of Commerce, and the Virginia Department of Economic Development. He later moved to Virginia Beach to continue his work in economic development for the town of Suffolk until his retirement. Tom is predeceased by both his first wife Nona Allen and his second wife Smiley Hubard.Tom, known to his grandchildren as Opa, was devoted to his family, his country, his church and to living his best life. He was an avid, international traveler and reader and never ceased to be curious about the world around him. He loved good food, good wine and a good glass of Irish. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
