Ursula Haas Obituary

Ursula Haas

Virginia Beach - Ursula Bridget Haas, 87, passed away Friday, July 18, 2014, at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital in Virginia Beach, VA. She was born November 30, 1926, in the Brooklyn area of New York City, NY, to James and Felicia "Fannie" Gemino Guido.

Ursula grew up in the New Dorp neighborhood of Staten Island, NY. As a child Ursula spent her summers in Monticello, NY, enjoying the cool breezes, relaxed days, and the company of her aunts, uncles, and cousins. She graduated from New Dorp High school then attended a local business school. After completing business school, Ursula worked briefly for Metropolitan Life Insurance in downtown Manhattan especially enjoying paydays full of shoes and clothes shopping.

Ursula married Albert Chester Haas in 1946 in Staten Island, NY. They remained married until his death in 2007. Al and Ursula enjoyed recreational vehicle travel. In addition to exploring the United States, they spent many post-retirement winters in Florida where Ursula learned to paint ceramics and make tissue boxes using plastic canvas and yarn.

Ursula was a member of Old Donation Episcopal Church where she could be found in the third row, aisle seat, at 8:00AM each Sunday morning. It was not unusual for Ursula to be surrounded by an additional three generations of family while worshipping.

Ursula was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and siblings, Mary Guido DeYoung, and Theresa Guido Moresco.

Ursula is survived by sons Lawrence Albert (Susan) Haas of Newport News, VA, and James (Phyllis) Haas of Virginia Beach, VA, as well as daughter Diane Adams (Jason) also of Virginia Beach, VA; her grandchildren Brandon Almberg, Felicia Downing, Casey Haas, and Alex Haas; her great-grandchildren Carolyn Almberg, David Almberg, Caleb Downing, Chantalise Downing, and Jackson Haas; and multiple nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at Old Donation Episcopal Church, 4449 N Witchduck Road, Virginia Beach, VA, at 3:00PM on Thursday, July 24, 2014. A visitation will be held at the church prior to the service beginning at 1:00PM. A light reception will follow in Old Donation's Parish Hall. Burial will be held at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA.

Flowers may be sent to Old Donation Episcopal Church, or, in lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to Old Donation Episcopal Church designated, "Haas - Angel Tree Ministry". Services entrusted to Altmeyer Funeral Home. Online condolences may be offered at www.altmeyer.com
