Walter Stanley Kirk

Virginia Beach - Walter Stanley Kirk, born September 13, 1925, passed into Eternal Life on October 13, 2016, surrounded by his family.

Mr. Kirk was born and raised in Bridgeport, CT, the son of Walter and Monica Kirk. He graduated with a degree in Chemical Engineering from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY. Mr. Kirk served in the United States Army during World War II and received the Bronze Star Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster and V device for Valor while serving with the 100th Infantry Division 398th Regiment Company E in France. Mr. Kirk was retired for many years from Hermes Abrasives of Virginia Beach.

Mr. Kirk is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Alice McIntosh, and by their seven children and twenty grandchildren: Nancy Weireter and her husband Leonard and their children, Megan Weireter (Adam Alden), Brian (Whitney), and Erin Davis (Robert); Thomas Kirk and his wife, Eileen, and their children, Daniel, Allison Islin (J. Alexander), Brian and Michael; Barbara Pecsok and her husband James and their children, Thomas (Meagan), Andrew, Elizabeth and Sarah Grace; Cathleen Faris and her husband Ronald and their children, Amy, Molly, and Kirk; Brian Kirk and his wife Binnie and their children, Kevin, Daniel and Christina; William Kirk and his wife Elizabeth and their children, William, Benedict, and Alice; and Neil Kirk. He is also survived by his great grandson, John Islin. The loving legacy will continue to grow. Mr. Kirk was predeceased by his parents and by his brother, Victor Kirk. His brother Richard Kirk and his children survive.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 pm on Sunday, October 16, at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments at 2002 Laskin Road, Virginia Beach.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 520 Graydon Ave., Norfolk on Monday, October 17, 2016 at 11 am. Interment at Arlington National Cemetery will be at a later date.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to St. Gregory the Great Church, Sacred Heart Church Soup Kitchen, or Freda H. Gordon Hospice and Palliative Care of Tidewater. Online condolences may be made to the family at hdoliver.com.
