Warren Durand Obituary

Warren Durand
Norfolk - Warren Lee Durand, 53, of Norfolk, Virginia past away December 23, 2011 in Norfolk.
A native of Norfolk, from his youth Lee was an avid entrepreneur who began selling tires right from his home and went on to establish Lee's Tires, a successful business he built personally over the last 28 years. Having an autistic son influenced him to support the Autism Society including running a bike rally for Autism awareness. He loved to travel with his beloved wife Valerie, who predeceased him eight years ago to the day. He is also predeceased by his daughter Christina Durand. He spent the later part of his life battling through much physical illness and chronic pain, but he never let any of that hold him back from his passion to provide love and stability for his children.
He is survived by his four sons, Warren (LJ), Thomas, Michael and Anthony "LEE" Durand. He is also survived by his three granddaughters and his father, Edward Durand, Sister Debra Cossu, Brothers Eddie, Jr. and Tony Durand.
A celebration of his life will take place Saturday, January 7, 2012 at St. John's United Methodist Church in Norfolk at 3 p.m.. The service will be conducted by his sister Debra, a Chaplain. There will be a reception in the fellowship hall afterwards and all are welcome to come and share with the family. If you would like to bring an picture of Lee for the scrapbook that would be great.

A candle for you Lee and for your boys...you prepared your boys well...Debbie, beautiful celebration of Lee's life. The church was full with much love and respect for Lee. He truely touched many hearts. He offered assistance to my parents as well as other neighbors in our neighborhood. He showed his big heart by all of his kind neighborly acts. Lee you will be miss, but will will see you again.

So many years go by and yet childhood seems like yesterday. I was always proud when I drove down Azalea that "one of us" from the neighborhood had a thriving business right there in the neighborhood. The Durands were everywhere, like the Mckilvanes . One of every age. To your family, I am sorry for your loss.

A memory of Lee...one memory that keeps going through my mind is watching Lee riding motorcycle. So many days, he pulled up to Azalea Garden Rd leaving Saratoga on his bike. Loved the sound as he pulled out and cruised down the street. The wind would blow back his long blonde hair as he rode.

Oh so many memories of childhood with the Durand clan. Cutting through each other's yard to get home or go to the store. Throwing dirt clogs at each other in fun, no harm was ever done or intended, my grandparents saw too this. Lee give my granny and grandpa, and Uncle Roy a hug for me. I miss them everyday. You are with loved ones now and instead of tossing dirt clogs you are now tossing puffs of clouds. Rest in Peace.
