William Alexander Walker

1930 - 2023

Dr. William Alexander Walker passed away on July 5th, 2023. He was born in Tacoma, WA on March 27, 1930 to the late Eleanor Marie O'Connor and William Alexander Walker.

Bill's journey from Tacoma to Heaven was marked by impressive academic and professional achievements. Following family tradition, Bill attended the US Military Academy at West Point, graduating in 1952. After his tour of duty in Korea, he was selected to attend the University of Virginia to earn his MS and PHD in Physics. During his distinguished 21 year military career, Bill served in a variety of military duties including Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) in Belgium followed by his tour in Vietnam, where he served as Battalion Commander in the 101st Airborne Division. His numerous awards and commendations include the Legion of Merit, The Bronze Star with Combat Valor for Heroism in Ground Combat, and the Air Medal with Valor. After retiring from the Army in 1973, he worked as a defense contractor for Tracor, Logicon, and Raytheon, directly contributing to the Patriot Missile Program.

Bill is survived by his wife, Jo Ann; sister, Terry Perrine; children, William "Will" Walker III, Elisabeth Watkins, Emily Walker, Jane Whitt, George "Mitch" Walker; step-children: Michele Thevenet, Margot Thevenet, Howard Thevenet, Renee Rodbell, Adrienne Jochum, Monique Balboa, Patrice Hoffman, Scott Edelman, Kris Edelman; 21 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

A mass of Christian Burial will be held 11am, Friday, August 11, 2023 at the Church of the Holy Family. Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
