It's that day once again, May 25th....just another day to some but a day of remembrance for us. We miss you every day, night and day, but at the same time, I try to focus on the happy memories, all the skinny pancakes, Winnie the Witch, the ice cream....and just having the joy of spoiling you from babyhood on up to adult hood...I don't regret a minute of it.

We miss you buddy. Just the other day I was thinking about the days when all we did was play baseball at the little league diamond all day. I will always remember that cardinals team. I will also never forget the day you bailed me out against rock island alleman. Wasn't a pretty catch but probably the best i've ever seen. Maybe someday we can play ball again all day. Miss ya buddy.

The tears we shed are for selfish reasons. We want you here with us. Shame on us for wishing someone back from the glory of Heaven. I know now, that you are not gone.....you are still here participating in everything we do. You laugh when we laugh, you pick us up when we become weak. You guide us when we make a mistake. You listen when we talk to you and comfort us when we cry for you. You were my "first duck" that God sent to me. He chose you so that I could learn how to be a mom. I tried Cabes, I really did. Would never make "Mother of the Year Award" but there is NO mother anywhere that could love her boys more than me. Five years have passed since that horrible day. I can still relieve every minute of it----including the pt. who stopped me on our way back to our guest room......he hugged me and told me in my ear that "he can see you and hear you. Do you understand what I am telling you ma'am? I have died twice and know this to be true." I keep those word forever in my heart and now, I know it's true. You make yourself known in many ways. I will continue to look for your signs until the day it is my turn to "cross over." Thank you for watching over Lance and Tay!
As, I told you before you went into surgery that day.....I love ya, bud.

Welcome him now into paradise where there will be no more sorrow, no more weeping or pain, but only peace and joy with Jesus your Son, and the Holy Spirit forever and ever.

Dear family of Pfc. Caleb A. Lufkin,

We want to say thank you. We understand that no words can be adequate for your sorrow. We certainly do not want to intrude upon your privacy. As Americans we want you to know that we deeply appreciate the ultimate sacrifice your loved one has made for all of us. We also would like for you to be aware that with this letter comes our special concern and prayers for you. We are all safer because young men and women who love their country, and know the value of a free nation, are willing to put themselves in harms way, and lay down their lives to keep this nation free and safe for all of us.
Your sacrifice is also very great. We know that we can give little comfort; however, the knowledge that your loved one did not die in vain, but died in the service of our country, gives each of us a noble example of the value of life, and the responsibility of freedom. We hope this will bring pride and comfort to you.
We at Gethsemane Church believe that there is purpose to life. We send this letter with our deepest appreciation for the greatest of sacrifices, you and your loved one have given to this country. We know it is not enough, but please allow us to assure you that your loved one is not forgotten.

Very Sincerely

Frank G. Noyes

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Caleb, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there... I do not sleep.
I am the thousand winds that blow...
I am the diamond glints on snow...
I am the sunlight on ripened grain...
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you waken in the morning's hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of gentle birds in circling flight...
I am the soft star that shines at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry-
I am not there... I did not die...

To the Lufkin Family,
I watched the CNN special, which was heartbreaking. There are no words which can lighten your loss- just know that fellow Americans appreciate so much the willingness of our young people to support our country. Since our country was founded, our survival has depended on brave young men and women who are willing to give their lives for freedom for all Americans. Your son joins a gallant fellowship of all of those who have died for America.
My daughter's best friend, Tom Tucker died in Iraq a month after Caleb; her life will never be the same, as yours will not. She tries to remember all the good times, and
to be thankful for the years she and Tom had as friends.
Perhaps someday the world will be a place where there are no wars, where young people can live to old age in peace. That is my hope.
Thank you so much for your brave son's sacrifice.

To Calebs Family--

Many times today we hear about heros with regard to sports figures, but in my book Caleb was the definition of a true American Hero. There is no greater love and honor than what he gave for all of us and his country. It gives us little comfort to know that he is in Heaven now because he is missed so much here. I know he is there with Gavin and Bryan and they are looking down on us down and smiling. He will never be forgotten.

Your loved one gave his life ( THE ULTIMATE SACRAFACE )for his countries freedom so people like myself can walk around in today's world and feel save and i thank him for that and i thank your family for letting him protect his country.Always remember there are somethings that can never be taken away from you.One is the memories be it good or bad that your family has made together. The other is being the PROUD PARENT OR THE PROUD FAMILY MEMBER OF A FINE YOUNG MAN Pfc.Caleb A. Lufkin. I know words can not bring a loved one back but the memories can live forever.I hope all of you can stay strong and pull together in this time of need i'm sure Caleb would want it this way.Take care and God Bless from a Gulf War Veteran.88-91

To the family of Caleb Lufkin-

Throughout the week I have been thinking of your son, and you the family. I worked with Caleb on Ward 57 as a RN several night shifts. Once patients get to WD 57, the process is usually rehab and recovery. In the past 3 years I have worked as a Army Officer, I have not experienced a death. I was shocked when I came into work and heard that Caleb was no longer in Rm 33. I, as well as several coworked, cried several times that night and have been grieving as well. Although I did not know your son for very long, he has a special place in my heart. I enjoyed caring for him and talking with you the family. Know that you are in my prayers. God Bless.

I didn't know PFC Caleb Lukin, but I am a soldier currently serving in Iraq as well. This year my unit lost 4 of our own and it's a constant reminder that this is still a very violent country. My heart goes out to your family and friends. May God bless you and keep in his ever loving arms. And remember, Caleb is, was and always will be a hero to us all.

To the Family of Pfc. Caleb A. Lufkin;

My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courgeous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life. We lost a son 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday.

I know first hand there are no words right now that will bring you the comfort and peace you need. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you mourn this loss. We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with. I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally, but none of these courageous men and women will be forgotten. They will never be able to be replaced, but sometime, someday your loving memories will help to sustain you. This courageous soldier will forever now be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well. To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is those wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever. If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero. God Bless this courageous soldier and family.
