Danny Smock Obituary

PEKIN - Danny Ray Smock, 66, of Pekin passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, and was welcomed into the arms of Jesus at 2:35 p.m. Sunday, April 26, 2015, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

Born July 15, 1948, in Jacksonville to Clarence and Cora (Claussen) Smock, he married Judy Moore on Dec. 19, 1967, in White Hall. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Craig (Peggy) Smock of Morton and Brian Smock of Winnebago; three grandchildren, Cassie Smock, Ryan Smock and Kayla Smock, all of Morton; two sisters, Joyce Cacciatori of Auburn and Cheryl (Clarence) Howard of Winchester; and six brothers, Steven (Pat) Smock of Mt. Carmel, David Smock of Waverly, Richard (Lena) Smock of Lake St. Louis, Mo., Stanley (Karen) Smock of Washington, Kevin (Janice) Smock of San Marcos, Calif., and Mike (Cyndi) Smock of Jacksonville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Gordon Smock; and one sister, Janice White.

Danny served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, earning several medals, including a Silver Star, Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal and an Air Medal.

Danny had started working for Caterpillar, Inc. in 1966 on the track shoe line in Building X, eventually becoming a tool designer, and creating two patents. He retired in 2007 as a senior manufacturing engineer after 35 years of loyal service.

He was a faithful man, relying on the Lord Jesus Christ for his salvation. His life was an example of Christ-like sacrifice, and he always put others ahead of himself. He lived his life with integrity and a simple trust in the Lord.

Danny was the most loving husband and father anyone could even dream of. He was always supportive of the goals and dreams of his wife and children. He adored his grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them and supporting them by attending their activities.

He enjoyed being outdoors and golfing and was an avid yard gardener.

His celebration of life will be at 7 p.m. Friday at Cornerstone Baptist Church at 18040 Unsicker Road, Groveland, IL 61535. The Rev. Dr. Steven E. Hauter will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the church.

Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin is assisting the family with arrangements.

Our deepest sympathy to the family of this dear man. We love this family and Danny was such a wonderful friend. His obituary describes him perfectly. He did live life with a simple trust in the Lord, but he also lived his life simply. Danny was a no frills person who passed through this world quietly and lovingly. It is has been an honor to have him in our lives for the past 37 years and call him the best of friends. Danny will be sorely missed by those who knew and loved him. Our Love, Glenda and Ken Weyhrich
