Donald Robinson Obituary

PEORIA - Donald K. "Robby" Robinson, 72, of Peoria passed away at 12:25 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 30, 2011, at Methodist Medical Center.

Don was born Sept. 5, 1938, in Warsaw, Ill., to Lloyd F. and Virginia Henkle Robinson.

Surviving are one daughter, Christine (Rob) Malerk and their children, Robbie and Dillon, of LaSalle; one brother, Cyrus (Brenda) Robinson of Davenport, Iowa; several nieces and nephews; and his special friend, Mary Anne Arnett of Peoria.

He was an Army veteran.

Don earned a bachelor's degree in education from Western Illinois University in 1963 and his master's degree in physical education from the University of Iowa in 1969.

Don currently worked as a program director at Royal Publishing.

He retired as associate executive director of the Illinois High School Association on July 1, 1999, after 21 years of service. During his tenure with the IHSA, Don served as administrator in charge of football, basketball, wrestling, track and field, and the Officials Department. He also was the rules interpreter for football, basketball and wrestling.

Don was highly involved with the NFHS during his career, serving on NFHS Football Rules Committee for 20 years and the NFHS Wrestling Rules Committee from 1988 to 1994. In 1990, Don was named chairman of the Wrestling Rules Committee and served through 1994.

Prior to joining the IHSA, Don was a teacher and coach at the high school level for nine years, followed by six years at Bradley-Bourbonnais in the student affairs office.

Don was a certified official in boys basketball and wrestling and also officiated football, track and baseball before he retired to honorary status in the Officials Department in 1979.

He was an avid golfer.

Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011, at The Wilton Mortuary. The Rev. Howard Love will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the mortuary and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday. Cremation rites were accorded.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Donald K. Robinson Private Memorial Fund, WIU Athletic Dept., 1 University Circle, Macomb, IL 61455, or Kidney Cancer Association, P.O. Box 3516, Oak Brook, IL 60522-3516.

rned that we had lost Robbie. We were golfing buddies at Crestwicke for years. We now live in Ms. Rob was here this spring and he and I got to have a drink and visit for a couple of hours. I had no idea that would be the last time I would see him. Hewas agood friend and I will miss hearing from him. God bless

Dear Cy and Brenda:

As you know, Don and I were good buddies since grade school. We played football together in high school and I still remember the touchdown pass he threw to me. After we got out of the Army, we played a lot of fast-pitch softball together. I'll miss him. Please accept my sympathy.
