Duane Alan Stone
PEORIA - Duane Alan "Heavy D" Stone, age 54, of Peoria, IL, passed away at 10:36 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 1, 2016, at his home. Duane was born September 17, 1961, in Peoria, IL, to Kenard L. Stone Jr. and Rosalie M. (Rudd) Stone. He accepted Christ at an early age at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. He played the viola in grade school and graduated from Peoria High School in 1979. He attained the rank of Sergeant in the Army, where he was part of the 82nd Airborne Division in Fort Bragg North Carolina. While there, he also directed the Ft. Bragg Military Choir. During that time, he attained many awards and accommodations, Sgt. Stone, Duane A. He was a strong encourager to many and was a foster parent with the Children's Home Association and was awarded many certificates. He was the CEO and Co-Founder of the ILL-State Riders MC. He loved singing and composing and was called upon to sing at numerous weddings and programs.
He is survived by one son, Desmund Moore of North Carolina; four daughters, Estitia Stone of St. Louis, MO, Taja Green of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Adriona Jordan of Dallas, TX, and Nikita (Ronald) Stewart of Moreno Valley, CA; his mother, Rosalie Stone of Peoria; two God sons, Sgt. Jeraud Green of Kaiserslautern, Germany and Quentin Hines of Elk Grove, IL; one God daughter, Brooke (Roger) Smith of Elkgrove, IL; eight grandchildren; six brothers, Kenard Stone III of Chula Vista, CA, David (Marilyn) Stone of Stockton, CA, Daniel Stone of Champaign, IL, and Dale Stone, Ivan (Sabrina) Stone and Stephen Stone, all of Peoria, IL; special nephew, Reginald Stone of Peoria, IL; adopted brother, Woodrow Stone of Peoria, IL; three sisters, Pauline Stone of Alta Loma, CA, Nancy Jackson of Peoria, IL, and Rebecca (Roland) Casey of Duarte, CA; adopted sister, Sharnay Stone of Peoria, IL; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends whose lives he has impacted.
He was preceded in death by his father, maternal and paternal grandparents and one sister, Juanita Christine Stone.
A homegoing celebration will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 10, 2016, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, with a visitation beginning at 10 a.m. Army military rites will be rendered. Pastor Alphonso Lyons will officiate. Duane will be laid to rest at Camp Butler National Cemetery on Monday, September 12, 2016, at 12 noon. Simons Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
