Frances Wetzel Obituary

BARTONVILLE - Frances M. "Fran" Wetzel, 94, of Bartonville, Ill., died Tuesday morning, May 29, 2012, at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria.

She was born on Aug. 29, 1917, in Peoria, Ill. She was the daughter of Isadore and Marie (Reichert) Wendling. She was first married to Harold Taylor on Aug. 23, 1941. He preceded her in death on April 23, 1957. She later married Dale H. Wetzel on Sept. 12, 1969, in Bartonville, Ill. He preceded her in death on Dec. 5, 2004.

She also was preceded in death by two stepsisters.

Fran is survived by one daughter, Judith Howard of Peoria; and two sons, James (Sue) Taylor of Bartonville, Ill., and Thomas (Becky) Taylor of Pekin, Ill. She has four grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren surviving. She has two brothers surviving, Ernest (Betty) Wendling of Bartonville, Ill., and Fred Brotz of Metamora, Ill.

Fran had worked as a cashier for 27 years at the A&P Grocery Store in Peoria, and later worked at the Peoria State Hospital for eight years, retiring in 1972.

She was a member of the Femmes Unir Women's Club in Bartonville, the Emblem Club of the Elks Lodge No. 121 of Peoria, lifelong member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 979 in Bartonville and the Farmington Road Home Extension. She was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church of Bartonville and the Mission Circle and Leisure Group of the church.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, June 1, 2012, at St. John Lutheran Church in Bartonville. The Rev. Michael Jones will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Burial will be in the St. John Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to St. John Lutheran Church.
