Fred Myers Obituary

Fred H. Myers
METAMORA - Fred H. Myers, 92, of Metamora, IL, passed away at 6:35 p.m. on Sunday, December 17, 2017, at Snyder Village in Metamora.
He was born on November 11, 1925, in St. Louis, MO, to Wilbur and Josephine (Adrian) Myers. He married Janice E. Wimer in St. Louis, MO, on June 7, 1950. She survives.
Also surviving are her daughters, Joan (Blair) Hartnett of Metamora, Shirley Myers Olman of Highlands, NJ, and Chris Myers of Moab, UT; six grandchildren, Megan (Matt) Hutchison, Emily (Ahkeem) Simmons, Kaitlyn Hartnett, Kara Hartnett, Jacob Ratliff and Charley Olman; and three great-grandchildren, Mia, Dane and Emersyn Hutchison.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.
Fred was a U.S. Navy veteran who served during World War II. He worked at AT&T as an electrical engineer, where he earned several company awards for his involvement with technology. He worked in early fiber optics and was on the cutting edge for developing video phones, a project that was instrumental in the creation of modern day cell phones. Fred was a self-taught expert in finance and investment as a result of his love for reading financial reports. During his retirement, he worked as an accountant for HTI Automotive, his son-in-law's automotive repair business, and the Navy Marine Club in Peoria Heights.
Beyond his professional life, Fred was dedicated to his family. For 57 years, he traveled the country with his wife, Janice, to square dance with the Caterpillar Belles and Bows, the Morton Rollaways and the New Jersey Ramblers. He loved to play cards, be with family and hike, especially at the Bridger Wilderness in Wyoming. Fred was a member of Willow Hills United Methodist Church in Germantown Hills.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, December 23, 2017, at Mason Funeral Home Metamora Chapel, with the Reverends Dave Bultemeier and Ken Hogren officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:30 p.m. until service time on Saturday at the funeral home. Cremation rites will be accorded after his service. Burial of ashes will be in Camp Butler in Springfield, IL, at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Snyder Village Residence in Need Fund, 1200 East Partridge Street, Metamora, IL 61548.

Dear Janice and Family, I am sorry to learn about Fred. He was a good friend to our parents, Jane and Bob Ries, who passed away last year - December 18 (Mom) and January 2 (Dad). They always spoke so well of you both and I remember our "family" reunions in St. Louis and Redbank NJ. I wish you all the best during this difficult time and hope you find comfort in the many memories of a life lived to the fullest.

I have many fond memories of both Fred and Jan after we met in those Square Dancing circles around Peoria. My sympathy to you, Jan, and to all your family.
