MORTON - Frederick P. Frankville, 84, of Milan, father of a Morton woman, passed away Friday, Dec. 6, 2013, at his home.
Services will be at 12 noon Tuesday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island, where visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 12 noon Tuesday. Burial, with military honors, will be at Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Milan American Legion, Post 569; Disabled American Veterans; or to a favorite charity.
Frederick was born April 11, 1929, in Rock Island. He graduated from Rock Island High School, Class of 1948.
He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War, where he served with the Dog Company, 7th Regiment, 1st Marine Division. He was a Silver Star and Purple Heart recipient.
Frederick married Sherry A. Perkins on July 24, 1956, in Galesburg, Ill.
He was employed with the Rock Island Line railroad and retired from the Sioux Line railroad, following 44 years of service. He was the author of "Running With the Dogs, War in Korea with D/2/7 USMC."
Frederick was a member of the Milan American Legion, Rock Island VFW, Rock Island Eagles Club, NRA and in earlier years, the Moline Elk's Club.
He was a voracious reader, loved history and could talk intelligently about most any subject. He also loved collecting and restoring antique cars and tractors.
Frederick was loved dearly by his family and friends and treasured them all as well. He will be remembered for his quick-wit sense of humor and upbeat personality. He was fierce and fearless in all aspects of life. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sherry, of Milan; son, Dr. Richard Frankville, his wife, Sandy, and their children, Alex and Austin, all of Brazil, Ind.; daughter, Susie Schmidgall of Morton, Ill., and her children, Julie (Paul) Quiram of Benson, Ill., and Cindy (Shane) Zimmerman of Bellflower, Ill.; great-grandchildren, Erin Quiram, Michael Brooks and Cheyenne Zimmerman; great-granddaughter, Ellie Brooks; sister, Rosemary Schlegel of San Antonio, Texas; and many nieces and nephews, including special nephews, Mark and Bill Schlegel, and special niece, Pamela Yackovich.
Frederick was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, John and Domenic Frankville; and his sister, Josephine Ryan.
