I first met George as a young high school football player in Washington,IL. His famous smile and easy rapport with the kids soon made him a favorite. Fortunately, I was able to keep in contact with George over the years and was able to help him with some projects while he practiced politics in Peoria. I am honored to call George a true friend.

In his 85 years on this earth, George enriched the lives of all he encountered. I was doubly blessed to be able to call him my uncle. He will be dearly missed by both family and friends. My thoughts and love are with you Norma, Jack, and Jill.

George Johnston, was my boss at the Courthouse when he was acting Circuit Clerk. He was a great guy and a great boss. He also has my Bradley playing cards. He will be missed terribly. I'm sorry I can't make the visitation as I will be out of town for the weekend. Norma, stay strong. Barb Patterson

I'm grateful that I had a chance to visit with George and get to know him briefly at Brad & Betsy's wedding. I was amazed at the youth of his mind...and the greatness of his character was immediately apparent. He was instantly likeable and very interesting to talk with. The fullness of his life and the time you had with him would be something I hope you can all truly CELEBRATE at this time... but I know from my own experiences, it's difficult to do when your heart is aching with the pain of loss.
Wish we could be with you.
Love, Don Spawn

George Johnston is my grandpa. I know that a lot of who I am today is because of him. He was a scholar, a gentleman, a lover, a fighter, an idealist, a hard worker, a soldier, a father, a teacher, a friend, a jokester, a dancer, a late-night wanderer, and the meanest Scrabble player I know. He loved his life. He is the epitome and definition of what has come to be know as "the Greatest Generation." I will miss him terribly and will keep his spirit with me forever.

Norma, I do not know if you will remember me but I surely remember you and George from the times we had at Richwoods. You were very blessed to have him for such a long number of years. Know you and your family will miss him terribly. My heartfelt sympathy and prayers that you may be comforted.

I am truly saddened by the death of Coach Johnston. I will never forget the gold shoes he wore during our practices.Although its been almost 40 years since I was at Richwoods with the coach,we kept the friendship alive as both a coach and a neighbor growing up.Men like Coach Johnson come along only once in a while and he will truly be missed by his players.
