GALESBURG - Georgia V. Bowman, 89, of Galesburg, formerly of Gilson, Ill., died on Friday, Nov. 20, 2009, at 12:30 a.m. at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg, Ill.
She was born on Feb. 14, 1920, in Burlington, Iowa, the daughter of Roy L. and Verna Campbell Morrison. She married Earl H. Bowman on April 9, 1938, in Galesburg, Ill. He preceded her in death on Dec. 25, 2004.
Surviving are her son, John Bowman of Fairview, N.C.; daughters, Mary (Michael) Dunn of Knoxville, Ill., and Lorelei (Elden) Neal of Galesburg, Ill.; seven grandchildren, Michael (Denise) Bowman, Leigh Bowman, Michele Theobald, Elden R. Neal, Susannah Neal, Jason (Christy) Dunn and Abby (Ty) Putnam; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter-in-law, Jan Bowman; and one grandson, Terry Bowman.
She graduated from Galesburg High School in 1937.
She was a homemaker and farm wife.
She was a member of the Orange Chapel United Methodist Church in rural Gilson, Ill.
She was active in her church and community and was a member of the Delong Book Club. She loved to read and sew.
Graveside memorial services will be held on Friday, Nov. 27, 2009, at 11 a.m. at the Haynes Cemetery in rural Delong, Ill. The Rev. Dan Doty will officiate. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2009, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home and Crematory in Knoxville, Ill.
Memorials may be made to the Orange Chapel United Methodist Church or the Children's Milk Fund in Galesburg, Ill.
