WASHINGTON - Gordon Vincent Biggar, 83, a resident of Windsor Park in Carol Stream, Ill., and formerly of Washington, Ill., passed away, he fell asleep and woke up with his Lord and Savior, on Saturday, Dec. 12, 2015.
He was born on Dec. 10, 1932, in Elmhurst, Ill., to George and Genevieve Chappell Biggar. Gordon grew up in several locations, including Cincinnati, Ohio, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Wheaton, Ill., graduating from Wheaton High School in 1951. While attending the HYACKs high school group at College Church in Wheaton, Gordon made his most important life decision to follow the Lord Jesus throughout his life. Gordon graduated from Bradley University, majoring in business administration, in 1955. While at Bradley, he enjoyed running on the school's cross country team and being involved in Intervarsity Christian Fellowship.
After graduating from college, Gordon enlisted in the U.S. Army and served at Fort Lewis, Wash., and at Fairbanks, Alaska. He met his wife, Annette Moller, on a blind date in Chicago in 1961, and married in October of 1962. He was a devoted husband and father to his wife and three children.
Gordon and his wife, Annette, were active members of Grace Bible Church in Washington, Ill., from 1976 to 2014. He was a devout Christian, who enjoyed serving in his church. For many years, he worked as Grace Bible Church's Sunday school superintendent. He also helped start the church's AWANA program, and was its AWANA commander for many years.
One of Gordon's favorite hobbies was running. After resuming his running career while in his 40s, he was an active member of the Illinois Valley Striders. He ran in numerous races, winning many trophies for his age group. He ran twice in the Chicago Marathon in his late 50s. He continued running into his 70s. He was also very involved in helping to organize races, and served as the director of the Folepi River Trail Classic race in East Peoria for many years.
In addition to his wife, Annette, Gordon is survived by his three children: son, David Gordon (wife, Alice) of Navarre, Fla.; daughter, Marsha Kathleen Chiang (husband, Paul) of Winfield, Ill.; and son, Daniel Vincent of Chicago, Ill. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Caleb, Joshua and Annagrace Chiang and Sarah and Jonathan Biggar.
Gordon was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Betty Gene Hare; and his brother, George.
Gordon had a dry sense of humor to the end. After breaking his leg a few weeks ago, he told his daughter to tell people he had "breaking news."
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2015, at Windsor Park in Carol Stream, Ill.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to TEAM, P.O. Box 1986, Grapevine, TX 76099-1986; or the Windsor Park Benevolent Fund, 124 Windsor Park Drive, Carol Stream, IL 60188.

Annette,
Thinking of you and praying God blesses you and your family with his comfort and peace. I always enjoyed talking with you and Gordon at EastSide Center. Gordon was a fun person to share thoughts with when we should have been 'working out'. Also, I liked having him as the bus driver whenever my students and I took a field trip. He was a wonderful person.

To the Biggar family,
My heartfelt sympathy goes out to you in your loss. I remember running with Gordon in the 5K races connected with Bradley homecoming week-ends. We also talked about the joys of running. I really enjoyed talking to him and after reading his obituary about his dedication to Jesus Christ, I am very blessed to have known him.
God bless you all

My first 4 mile race was a Gordon Biggar sponsored event on the square in Washington in September, 1981 called the Panther Run. My blue T-shirt still hangs in the rafters of my garage from his race. My wife and I helped Gordon on several of his smaller races. He was always fun to see and talk to at other races in the Peoria area. We will miss him. Our deepest sympathy to his entire family.
