ONEIDA - Harold Eugene Cruce, 91, of Oneida, Ill., died at 12:05 a.m. Saturday, June 4, 2011, at Heartland Health Care Center in Galesburg, Ill.
He was born June 15, 1919, in Urich, Mo., the son of James and Mary Ingam Cruce.
He served his country in World War II from 1942 to 1945.
He married Virginia Antoinette Adams on Oct. 22, 1950, in Oneida, Ill. She preceded him in death on April 13, 2007.
Mr. Cruce was a carpenter for Galesburg Construction for 30 years.
He was a member of the United Church of Oneida and former member of the Galesburg American Legion.
Harold is survived by his two sons, Perry Gene (Roberta) Cruce of Marquette Heights, Ill., and James Stanley (Kathi) Cruce of Chino Hills, Calif.; two daughters, Jan Yvonne (Von) Cawvey of Anchorage, Alaska, and Virgie Denise (JB) Rose of York, S.C.; 13 grandchildren, Emily (Matthew) Dawson, Michael (Kelli) Cruce, Sarah Cruce, Matthew (Ana) Cruce, Aly Cruce, Bradley Cruce, Jessica Cawvey, Zachary Cawvey, Amy Cawvey, Bo (Tyler) Culjan, Aaron Culjan, Casey (Greg) Yake and Jamie (Jason) Grunsky; and four great-grandchildren, Anna Culjan, Tristan Culjan, James Dawson and Ayden Dawson.
He also is survived by two brothers, John Cruce of Missouri and Oliver "Bud" (Mary) Cruce of Altona, Ill.; two sisters, Czerna Bye (Gene) Johney of Missouri and Catherine (John) Freytag of Missouri; and two brothers-in-law, Gale (LaVonne) Adams of Oneida, Ill., and Maynard (Joan) Adams of Florida.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 11, 2011, at 11 a.m. at Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home in Oneida, Ill. The Rev. David Pyrell will officiate. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 10, 2011, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home, Oneida, Ill. Burial will be in the Oneida Cemetery in Oneida, Ill.
