James Coleman Obituary

Morton - James R. Coleman, 82, of Morton passed away at 3:48 p.m. Friday, Feb. 25, 2011, at Proctor Hospital in Peoria, Ill.

He was born April 13, 1928, in Springfield, Ill., to Charles M. and Sarah J. (Farns-worth) Coleman. He married Lois M. Van Buren on June 5, 1954, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Pekin.

Surviving are his wife, Lois Coleman of Morton; two sons, Tim (Sue) Coleman of Pekin and Kevin (Tracey) Coleman of Tualatin, Ore.; two daughters, Colleen (Tim) Carey of Washington and Kathleen (David) Neulinger of Green Valley, Ill.; nine grandchildren and two stepgrandchildren; and one stepgreat-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Margaret; his parents; three brothers; and four sisters.

James was a United States Army veteran.

He was a teacher and administrator for 23 years in Illinois and Missouri. Then he was a sales representative for Capital City Paper Company in Springfield, Ill., and later owned and operated Ace Hardware in Pontiac, Ill.

James was a member of Knights of Columbus in Morton and Phi Delta Kappa fraternity.

He also was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church in Morton, where a funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 2, 2011, with Father Mark DeSutter officiating. Visitation will be from 9 to 10:15 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Morton.

Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Morton is handling arrangements.

Memorials may be made to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Morton or to the American Heart Association, Greater Illinois, 2524 Farragut Drive, Suite A, Springfield, IL 62704.

I remember Jim as a friend and a classmate from my days as a student at St. Agnes elementary school in Springfield,Ill. My deepest sympathy.
