Loved traveling and adventure, but lived life for grandchildren

CANTON - Jill P. (Schisler) Sherwood, 51, of Canton died at 5:35 p.m. on Saturday, April 7, 2012, in rural Canton.

She was born on April 8, 1960, in Galesburg to Gale Schisler and Carolyn (Cochran) Stevens. She married David Kent Sherwood on June 17, 2010, at St. John's island in the Virgin Islands. He survives.

Also surviving are her father, Gale (Gloria) Schisler of rural London Mills; her mother, Carolyn (the late Ken) Stevens of Galesburg; one daughter, Elicia (Justin) Munson of Fairview; two stepchildren, Abby Sherwood of St. Louis, Mo., and Hunter Sherwood of Canton; one brother, Kurt Schisler (Debbie Pherigot) of rural Astoria; one sister, Kimberley Schisler (Danny Lock) of rural Canton; and three grandchildren, Samantha, Tyler and Connor Munson.

Jill was a registered nurse and currently worked as a field surveyor for The Joint Commission for Hospital Accreditation in Oak Brook Terrace.

She had a passion for traveling the world and tackling the next big challenge, and had volunteered for medical mission work in Kenya and Haiti.

She was an avid scuba diver and was of the Methodist faith.

She devoted her free time to her grandchildren, for whom she lived her life.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 11, 2012, at the Union Church of Rapatee. The family will receive family and friends immediately following the service at the Fairview Reformed Church Fellowship Hall. There will be a celebration of her life at a later date.

So sorry for your loss. I'm going to miss Jill so much. She was such a free spirit and so much fun to be around. When I see a star in the night skies that's shining a little brighter than the others, I'll know it's her smiling down on me.
