AURORA - John Daraban, 87, of Aurora passed away Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2012, at his home.
He was born Feb. 16, 1925, in Aurora, Ill.
John was a Navy veteran of World War II and was a member of the American Legion Band Association and the Knights of Columbus No. 736. He was a band director at Roanoke High School for many years.
Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, Mabel "Penny" Daraban; his daughter, Joan (Mario) Monterubio; his sons, John (Nancy) Daraban, David (Jeanne) Daraban and Jeffrey (Barbara) Daraban; his 11 grandchildren: Marc, Melinda, Amy, Julie, Michael, Eric, Nathan, Allison, Catherine (Kris), Gregory and Sarah; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Rozalia Lugosi Daraban Balog; his father, Peter Daraban; his stepfather, Demeter Balog; his brothers, Peter, George and Louis; and by his sister, Rose Wendling.
A memorial visitation and prayer service will be held Sunday, Aug. 12, 2012, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Roanoke.
Entombment will be private. Visitation was held Friday, Aug. 10, 2012, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Daleiden Mortuary, 220 N. Lake St., Aurora.

Mr. Daraban taught me 60 play the trumpet from grade school through high school. An accomplished musician, he was always a pleasant, positive influence to all he met! My condolensces to his family and friends.
