He was a really nice man. He came out to our underground home of Jim and Helen Phipps on the Stark Peoria county line road and fished a few years ago and caught some Channel cats. Sincerely, Jim Phipps

Jaima and Family, I was stunned to learn of Joe's passing and so very sad.
I am a "newcomer" to Joe's list of clients, but I will be forever grateful for his willingness to advise and teach clients-both small and large. I learned about Joe Jr. from my team leader, Ken Maubach. I noticed that his investment advisor set up an annual meeting with him, whereas I always had to call my broker to set up a meeting.
I will always remember Joe's kindness, willingness to explain investments, and even his comedic vulnerability, when it came to looking up specifics on his computer. Your dad was not only kind, but very intelligent, and I always came away with a different perspective about investing.
Joe's dad, Joseph Stowell, Sr., and my dad, Robert R. Haarlow were both a part of the Bradley's Robertson Memorial Fieldhouse history. My dad played for the CAT Diesels in 1951 and 1952 at the Fieldhouse. And Joe, Sr., was an assistant basketball coach for the men's team. I remember being about 9 years old and attending the Bradley Brave games. I would stand during the national anthem in the shadow of the adults and sing. I was sure that the final verse "and the home of the brave" was in reference to the Bradley Braves. Ah, the innocence of childhood!
Finally, I will miss Joe more than words can say....I will close with
Isaiah 40:31
"they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint."
Farewell Joe - I can imagine your Spirit is all ready soaring upward....and enjoying the flight forever.

To Christine and Family, daughters and Joe and Marilyn
I have known Joe for a long, long time and our family's go back to the Bradley games and playing on the court at Robinson Memorial Fieldhouse. Joe was a good friend and always a pleasure to talk to with much words of wisdom. He would always make the time to meet and visit when I would make it home to Danvers , either meeting at Busy Corners for breakfast or to stop by Grace and Keith's house. The plan and purpose was to talk about the market & finances but it always quickly drifted into talk about families, sports and whatever the topic of the day was . He was a well rounded, positive individual who could talk about lots of different topics. He will be missed and I am very sad. May he rest in peace.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm happy to have known Joe and worked with him over the past several years. I was always impressed by his knowledge of the markets and the economy. He will be missed on my visits to Peoria! Much Love and Prayers, Keith Litavsky (First Trust)

When I opened my mail today and read the first line of Jaima's letter, my heart sank. Joe Stowell carried his financial wisdom and unending friendship through two generations of my family - 30 years. Little did I know when I walked on the campus of Bradley in 1983 and took up residency in Geisert Hall, that Marilyn would be running the mailroom and always be the friendly smile and cheerful word of encouragement for a junior transfer.
Later when my dad retired and returned to Roanoke in 1987, his paths crossed with Joe and the relationship began. Joe was the only financial advisor my dad ever had. I always thought my dad was brilliant: farm-raised values, WWII vet, graduated Bradley in engineering in '52 and 35 years as a design engineer and product planner with GE. Yet I can still remember the day he told me when he too was dying of cancer - "always trust what Joe says, he'll never lead you astray".
Joe took care of my mother's finances. made sure she could attend BU alumni events, and with her passing now Jaima is taking care of my retirement. Joe was the first to call me when I would visit back home and he even arranged for me to get a brick from the Fieldhouse when it was demolished.
To Christine and your family, Joe and Marilyn, I am very sorry for your loss. Please know you are in my prayers.

Sending my deepest sympathies to Joe's family. Joe was such a wonderful man and a good financial planner. He had such a big heart too. He found out how much I used to love the old Jumer's cinnamon rolls, and brought a box of them to one of the meetings I had with him about my finances. He also knew that we were big Cardinal fans, and offered us tickets to a game, and also tickets to a Bradley basketball game. I can't imagine how large of a void his passing will leave in his family's hearts, but keep his wonderful memories alive. Rest in eternal peace, Joe, and for old time sakes, Go CARDS!

I came to know Joe through my wife's parents and always appreciated the way he took care of their finances with honesty and integrity. He was, as many people have stated, more of an extension of the family and not just a financial consultant. Always personable and took the time to explain his reasoning in detail. Because of the way he treated my in-laws, especially as they grew older, I transferred a lot of my investments to Joe and left my retirement in his capable hands. I considered him a friend as well and often sought his advice. Joe was wise in many aspects of life. He is going to be greatly missed and it was certainly a shock to have him pass so quickly after his cancer diagnosis. My prayers go out to all his family and friends, especially Jaima as she now struggles with the loss of her father, friend, mentor and business partner.

I would like to express my sincere condolences to Joe Stowell's family. Especially, wife Christine and daughter Jaima. I met Joe about 7 years ago when he visited my home to congratulate my daughter Shannon Strader receiving the Joey Stowell Child Advocate award in 2010 from the OSF Children's Hospital of Illinois. As soon as I met Joe I could see beyond the Father of Joey Stowell and the lost legacy, grief, and pain of loosing a child. You see I too as a Father lost Shannon's twin Lauryn to disease. Something no Parent or Grandparent could ever imagine. However, I know Joe is now with his son Joey again without any pain and suffering. Joe during the last 7 years was an unbelievable support/inspiration to my daughter Shannon who is the founder of livebellasoul.org. Joe and Jaima helped Shannon take her passion to help others with disease/disability attending College and make it a reality with unending support for Bella Soul. Joe believed in Shannon and her good works. I hope his loss to his Family, Friends, and Clients can soon be filled with great memories of his life's good works as a Father, Son, Husband, and Friend. Joe left his positive mark on my family and for that I am forever grateful.

Joe was much more than just a friend to me. I just can't come up with the right words.
I am going to miss him. His advice, guidance, enthusiasm, and support, our discussions on sports in general, whether it was Bradley Basketball, Illini Basketball, the Bears, St. Phil's Cross Country and Track, St. Jude, so many things that are running through my head. I am extremely grateful for everything that Joe did for me.
Anything I put here is not going to be adequate in my mind for what I am feeling or what Joe deserves.
My thoughts and sympathy go out to the entire Stowell family.
I did have a large chocolate shake for you Tuesday.
Love ya Joe.

My deepest sympathy to all the Stowells at the time of passing of my friend, Joe. It is over 40 years since we attended Bradley together. I always enjoyed conversations with Joe about BU basketball, White Sox, Cardinals and the financial world.
Joe lived large. He loved his family, and we shared stories about our greatest passion, being "grandpa". I will miss him.
My prayers go with Christine, Jaima, Jessica and Ali. God bless you all.

My first thoughts are with Christine and Joe's immediate family and extended family members. My wish is that you find comfort in the memories of Joe.
I had so many wonderful experiences with Joe that it would be difficult to list them all so I'll be as brief as I believe I should. I met Joe through my childhood friend Dan Whitaker. During our Jr. High years, our parents would drop us off at old Hewitt Hall on Bradley's campus and we would play basketball against Bradley players and of course Mr. Stowell. Later when Hassler was built handball and racketball were forms of competition. Joe and I remained friends through high school, college, and adulthood. During our senior year in high school and throughout our college years, we attended a number of concerts together. Whenever I hear certain bands like Edgar Winter, David Bowie i.e
Ziggy Stardust , or Motdahoopel I think of Joe. Visiting one another throughout our college years was a common thing. We hunted and fished together. We attended a number of Bradley games on the road and one year were thrown out of the Drake game when Bradley's top player received a phantom 5th foul. Joe was a groomsmen at both of my weddings. Joe and I both began our careers in edication/coaching. I attended a number of basketball games at Mid-County. In our later years after marriage and children we didn't see one another as often which is understandable when managing a family but when we did get together it was if we never missed a beat. I'll miss my friend however I'll forever cherish our friendship and our adventures. I believe there is credence in the old saying life in the years and not necessarily years in the life. Joe believed in robust adventures and lived accordingly.

Joe you will be missed but never forgotten! As clients of yours..thank you for all you have done for us!! Such a kind admirable man that we respected greatly.
To Joe's family...you are in our prayers and pray that you may find peace and comfort during this difficult time.
