Kent Gashaw
GROVELAND - Kent A. Gashaw, 61, of Groveland passed away Sunday, June 17, 2018, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
Kent was born on May 27, 1957, in Denver, Colo., to Dwight and Ida Mae (Opie) Gashaw. He married Elizabeth Banks on March 26, 1977, in Lakewood, Colo.
Surviving are his wife, Liz of Groveland; two sons, Dan (Kate) Gashaw of Morton and Tim (Abbi) Gashaw of Morton; one daughter, Krissi (Kris) Kinslow of Brighton, Ill.; and seven grandchildren, Nate, Vivi, Eva, Jo, Riley, Regan and Dylan Gashaw. He is also survived by one brother, Robert (Mary Beth) Gashaw of Osborne, Kan.
He was preceded in death by both parents.
Kent retired from Caterpillar after 25 years of service, where he worked in management.
He was a boy scout who earned the highest achievement ranking of Eagle Scout. He was also a member of the Order of the Arrow.
Kent was an avid Nascar fan who enjoyed getting together with his friends to watch races. He was also fond of camping and traveling in his motor home.
Kent especially found great joy in spending time with his grandchildren and enjoyed being actively involved in their lives.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, June 24, 2018, at Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Morton. A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 25, at Morton United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Gary L. Feldman officiating. Burial will be held at Hirstein Cemetery in Morton.
Memorials may be made to Tazewell Animal Protective Society (TAPS). In honor of his love for penguins, memorials may also be made to South African Foundation for the Conservation of Costal Birds (SANCCOB), www.sanccob.co.za\donate.php, select African Penguin Conservation from drop down menu.

I had the honor of working with Kent at Caterpillar for several years. Kent was an intelligent and driven individual in balance with humbleness and kindness. He was a really good guy.
Kent will be missed.
