PEORIA - Luann Rigg Gustafson, 70, of Grovetown, Ga., formerly of Peoria, passed away and entered into eternal rest on Monday, June 23, 2014.
She was born in Peoria, Ill., on Nov. 14, 1943, to Herschel and Kathryn Thompson. She graduated from East Peoria High School and was married to Gilbert Gustafson of Grovetown, Ga.
She was a very compassionate caregiver and worked for many years at the Crittenton Crisis Nursery as the director of volunteer services and at the Peoria Association for Retarded Citizens.
She was an active member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and the Junior League and was engaged in many community volunteer efforts.
Travel, reading and interior decorating were her passions and she loved Broadway musicals.
She is survived by her husband, Gilbert of Grovetown, Ga.; her daughters, Stacey Hardesty and Stephanie Daugherty of Peoria; her sister, Marcy Howerter of Monroe City, Mo.; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A celebration of Luann's life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a local Cancer Society or ovarian cancer center.

She had a beautiful soul and I was privileged and proud to be her husband. She truly loved and cared for the less fortunate and made it her mission to better their lot. She touched many lives and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Rest in peace, sweet Luann.

I've known Luann since grade school and remember her well but haven't seen her in years. She was a cutie back then but grew into a beautiful woman. She will be missed by all who knew her. My deepest sympathy and prayers go out to her family...RIP LUANN
