Peoria - Lucille M. Litterst, 91, of Lutheran Hillside Village passed away at 6:05 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29, 2008, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center.
She was born on April 11, 1917, in Quincy, Ill., to Frank and Marie Waite Szerlong. She married Dr. Lawrence J. Litterst on June 12, 1939, in Galesburg, Ill. He passed away on March 20, 1996, in Peoria.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Leon and Ted Szerlong.
She is survived by three daughters, Joyce (Dr. Michael) Cashman of Dunlap, Christie (Rod) Wickert of Peoria and Connie (Rick) Britton of Morton; two sons, Dr. Lawrence J. (Dr. Judith K.) Litterst Jr. of St. Cloud, Minn., and the Rev. Robert K. (Wendy) Litterst of Richmond, Va.; two sisters-in-law, Jacqueline Szerlong Packer of Clearwater, Fla., and Rosie Szerlong of Galesburg, Ill.; 15 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was a graduate of Galesburg High School and a 1938 Knox College graduate. She then attended OSF School of Nursing and there she met the love of her life, Dr. Lawrence John Litterst.
Lucille has been a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church since its inception. She was also a member of OSF St. Francis Medical Auxiliary and Phi Mu Sorority. She was a volunteer for the Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts.
Lucille was a very avid Cubs fan. Her favorite pastime was spending special time with her children and grandchildren.
A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2008, at St. Vincent de Paul Church, with the Rev. Jason Gray and Pastor Paul Park officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Wright & Salmon Mortuary, with recitation of the rosary at 7 p.m. An additional visitation will be 30 minutes before the Mass at the church. Entombment will be in Resurrection Mausoleum.
She will be greatly missed.
