GERMANTOWN HILLS - Michael Charles Metz, 87, of Germantown Hills, IL, passed away at 8:38 a.m. on Tuesday, January 9, 2018, in the emergency room at UnityPoint Health-Methodist in Peoria, IL.
He was born on June 16, 1930, in Altus, Arkansas, to Carl and Elizabeth (Wiederkehr) Metz. He married Mary Vivian Marie Quin on July 29, 1950, at St. Mary's Cathedral in Peoria, IL. She passed away on May 11, 2014.
Surviving are his children, Margie (Steve) O'Connor of Washington Island, WI, Donna (Ron) Smith of Metamora, Michele (Bob) Prunty of East Peoria and Bob (Pam) Metz of Lake St. Louis, MO; twelve grandchildren, Sean (Fran) O'Connor, Jeremiah Smith, Renee Prunty, Shannon (Josh) Reading, Tiffany Prunty, Sabrina (Wally) Good, Jon (Chrissy) Metz, Heather (Nate) Lambert, Jennifer (Chris) Gurrie, Patrick (Emilie) O'Connor, Tyler Prunty and Olivia Prunty; twenty-four great-grandchildren; and siblings, Kathy Satterfield of Brimfield, IL, Betty Menold of Princeville, IL, and Ray Metz of Peoria.
He was preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers.
Michael worked as Master Electrician at Caterpillar. He received his GED diploma before finishing his career as a mid-level manager. He retired in 1986 after 38 years of service. He was an avid fisherman. He was called Mr. Fix-It because his wife, Vivian, always said, "Your father can fix anything."
A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 13, 2018, at St. Mary of Lourdes Catholic Church in Metamora, with Father Greg Jozefiak officiating. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until time of Mass. Burial will be in St. Mary of Lourdes Cemetery in Metamora. Luncheon will immediately follow the committal service at the cemetery at the church fellowship hall. All are welcome to join us in celebrating Mike's life.
