PEKIN - Miriam Eileen Abernathy, 90, of Pekin passed away at 12:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 10, 2014, at the Hallmark House Nursing Center in Pekin.
She was born Aug. 23, 1923, in Ellisville to Hugh and Verna Marie Reed. She married Addison Abernathy on May 9, 1952, in Bushnell. He survives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Cedrick Reed; and one sister, Lila Reed.
Surviving are two nieces and one nephew.
Due to serious illness, she was housebound for one year during her teenage years. She graduated from Canton High School in 1942. All during her life, she loved to cook and to entertain. She was gifted as a conversationalist and made many friends.
At the age of 16, she symbolized her dedication to Jehovah God by water Baptism as exemplified by her leader, Jesus Christ. Thereafter, she continued practicing her Christian dedication by being a Witness for Jehovah God. As one of Jehovah's Witnesses, she engaged herself in conducting home Bible studies and the volunteer house-to-house ministry. This ministry she practiced zealously while residing in Canton, Bushnell, Philipsburg, Pa., Red Oak, Iowa, and Pekin. During the years of 1959 to 1972, she practiced this home missionary work while traveling with her husband as he served in his ministering to congregations, one each week, as a circuit minister. She found her greatest joy was in spiritual knowledge she gained from reading, meditating and research she did from God's word, the Bible. She continues to receive many communications of gratitude from persons she in turn helped through the many years of her home ministry.
A memorial service and celebration of her life will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014, at Kingdom Hall, 2726 Broadway Road. Daniel Allen, Elder, will officiate.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 2726 Broadway Road, Pekin, IL 61554, in her name.

To the Abernathy family: I am so sorry to hear of your loss. The scriptures speaks of those who died old and satisfied they kept their faith strong to Jehovah God and the future hope of a resurrection. As I read the obituary Miriam Abernathy served Jehovah fully.
