peoria - Muriel F. Kellstedt, 90, of Peoria, Ill., passed away at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2012, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
Muriel was born Oct. 18, 1921, in Peoria to David T. Farrow and Olive R. Farrow.
Surviving are her daughter, Jenny Kellstedt; her in-laws, Charmaine and Lyman Kellstedt and their children; and her beloved dog Jack, a rescue Shih Tzu.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Robert; her much-loved son, Jamie; and her husband, James P. Kellstedt.
Muriel graduated from Peoria (Central) High School and attended Ward Belmont School in Nashville, Tenn., and Bradley University, where she was a member of Pi Phi Sorority.
She married James P. Kellstedt on July 25, 1942. She worked as a secretary to the commander at Fort Polk, La., and also was employed as secretary to the vice president of Dr. Scholl's in Chicago, Ill.
Muriel was a member of the Peoria Junior League, established the museum shop at Lakeview Center for Arts and Sciences, served as a public relations representative for the Civil Defense, performed eye exams for impoverished children, served on the day care board and the women's guild at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, and was a Boy Scout troop leader. She was beautiful in all respects, loving children, animals and her family. Muriel was gracious and compassionate, showing unfailing care for others in need. Above all, she was a wonderful mother, revered by her children.
Cremation has been accorded, and per her wishes, no services will be held.
Memorials may be made to Illinois Cancer Care or any no-kill animal shelter. The Cremation Society of Mid-Illinois Co., Pekin/Peoria is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be made at csmico.com.

Jenny, I am sorry for the loss of your mother. I have fond memories of being at your house many times in our grade school years, and your mother was always so kind. Haven't seen you in many years. Thinking of you at this time. Cherish the memories of your mother for they will become treasures.
