Paul J. Schmidt
PEORIA - Paul Joseph Schmidt, M.D., 68, of Peoria passed away on Sunday, July 4, 2021, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center.
Paul was born on September 9, 1952, in Evergreen Park, IL, to Herbert L. and Marie E. (McCadden) Schmidt.
Paul is survived by his wife, Georgia (Fox) Schmidt; son, Daniel Schmidt; step-children, Jessica, Jeffrey, James and Brenna; eight grandchildren; sister, Lynn Schmidt-Camomile; brother, Glen (Susan) Schmidt; nieces, Kelli Schmidt and Nicole Camomile; nephew, Michael Schmidt; aunt, Lillian McCadden; and former wife, Corinne.
Paul finished medical school at Rush Medical College in Chicago in 1982. After his internal medicine residency and cardiology fellowship, he moved to Peoria. In 1987, he began his cardiology practice, which expanded to serving patients within central Illinois throughout the years. Paul dedicated his life to medicine and taking care of his patients. He was always with a stethoscope, scrubs and coffee.
Paul was prepared for any adventure. He was an accomplished outdoorsman who enjoyed everything from mountain climbing, backpacking to marathoning. When he wasn't physically partaking in nature, he was capturing it with his camera. Most of all, he loved to see the world with his wife, Georgia.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 9, 2021, from 4 to 6 p.m. at The Wilton Mortuary in Peoria. A funeral service will be on Saturday, July 10, 2021, at 11 a.m., with a one-hour visitation prior at The Wilton Mortuary.

I was looking Dr. Pauls picture to show someone who he was and found this obituary. It saddens me to see this , I had no idea. Thank you Dr. Paul for taking such good care of me... RIP! Condolences to his whole family and all that loved him.

To the family of a wonderful man, I wanted to say hello to my old friend Paul as we would do from time to time and I stumbled on this obituary. I want to say my heart which he diagnosed and fixed many years ago is broken this morning. He was such a wonderful doctor from his early days as a resident where we met and just lovely man, I will miss knowing you are on this earth. I thank you for my heart which beats healthy all these years and I will treasure your smile which I will always remember and our friendship in my heart too. My wife (Lori) and I went to Glenbard East High School with Paul. He was a great caring man. He was planning to come to our delayed 50th Class Reunion this year and we will truly miss him. I will pray for his family and friends. He truly was a great and caring man.

Very sad to hear of Dr. Schmidt's passing. I remember working along side him in MICU at Methodist. A very intelligent man and I loved hearing of his climbing adventures. May God Bless his family, friends, and co-workers to whom I extend my sympathy too.

Worked many years with Dr Schmidt in the intensive care at Methodist.. he was caring, compassionate and all around great man to work along side... gone way too soon, his work here is done.. god bless you Dr Schmidt!! This makes me so sad. I worked with Dr Schmidt for many, many years in the cardiac units at Methodist. we both had a love of hiking and sailing and would share stories. He was more than a cardiologist. He was a friend. My sympathy and prayers to the family.
