Phyllis Sue Kelley
PEORIA - Phyllis Sue Kelley, 82, of Peoria passed away Thursday, April 8, 2021 at her residence. She was born in Champaign on August 28, 1938, the daughter of Gale and Juanita (Fuller) Wright. In 1957 she married Wally Martin and together they had five children, Lorrie, Lisa, Michael, and twins Mitchell and Matthew. In 1986 she married John Kelley who became a good stepfather and mentor to all children.
Sue graduated with the Champaign High School class of 1956 and considered many of her classmates lifelong friends. In 1968 she returned to school and obtained the status of a registered nurse. Following that she mostly worked at Methodist Hospital in Peoria specializing in orthopedic surgery. She was part of the original orthopedic surgical team. She felt fortunate to be a part of such a profession and made many good friends there.
Preceding her in death were her parents; three brothers, David Gene Wright, James Gale Wright, Gary Michael Wright; and son-in-law, Mark Stevens. Surviving her are her sister, Kathy Wright, Champaign, IL; children, Lorrie (Stanley) Hafner, Milan, IL, Lisa (Tom) Blank, Peoria, IL, Michael (Kelly) Martin, New Braunfels, TX, Mitchell (Erin) Martin, Melissa, TX, Matthew (Jill) Martin, Edwardsville, IL; stepchildren, Becky (Randy) Marvin, Washburn, IL, Mike Kelley, Indianapolis, IN and John Andrew (Leslie) Kelley, Peoria, IL. She also leaves 14 grandchildren, 9 greatgrandchildren, 6 stepgrandchildren and 9 stepgreat-grandchildren. She had great love for all and considered them her greatest gifts.
A memorial visitation will be held at 10 a.m. with a memorial service at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 17, 2021 at First United Methodist Church 116 NE Perry Ave., Peoria, IL 61603.
Memorial gifts to be given to her church or Peoria Rescue Mission in her name.
The Cremation Society of Mid-Illinois Co. Pekin/Peoria is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be made at csmico.com

To all of the Martin kids (the twins will not remember me but the oldest 3 “should”)... I’m so sorry to hear of your Mom’s passing. She was such a wonderful second Ma to me. Good times were had by us kids growing up in West Peoria! I remember her being kind and always welcoming to me. My heart is heavy and hurting for you all, but know that you’ll be with her again some day. Always remember the good times. ❤

May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow. So many great memories of Sue from the Ortho days to Book Club she was such a special person and I will miss her sense of humor and quick wit. RIP Sue love you❤
