PEORIA - Rebecca Sue Hurd, 60, of 4055 Treeline Court NE, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, formerly of Peoria, died Monday, April 28, 2008, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy following a long battle with cancer.
Family and friends are invited for a Celebration of Becky's Life from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 31, 2008, at the home of Tobie and Steve Mullen, 4613 Correll, Bartonville, where a memorial service will be at 4 p.m.
Arrangements are by Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Survivors include her husband, Robert; three sons, Jamey (Kim) Schmidt of Chaska, Minn., Robert Joseph (Jaclyn) Hurd of Minneapolis, Minn., and Jeremy Hurd of Oakland, Calif.; her brothers and sisters, Barbara (Gary) Quenon of Mapleton, Ill., Thomas (Pamela) Birkett and Timothy Birkett all of Peoria, Ill., and Tobie (Steven) Mullen of Bartonville, Ill.; two grandchildren, Carter and Samantha Josephine Schmidt; and several nieces and nephews.
Rebecca was born Nov. 19, 1947, in Washington, Ill., to Donald and Betty Geltmaker Birkett. She married Robert Arlan Hurd on July 21, 1973, in Peoria, Ill.
She was a homemaker.
She battled Multiple Sclerosis for 35 years. She led the Cedar Rapids MS Support Group and was chairwoman of the Cedar Rapids MS Walk.
She had a lifetime of volunteering, most recently for the Mercy Medical Center Pastoral Care, and caring for children with Cerebral Palsy.
She loved the Sonoran Desert and the San Francisco wine country and traveling to Mexico, California, Las Vegas, Miami and New York City.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
