MORTON - Richard D. "Dick" Hedrick, 87, of Morton passed away at 10:07 a.m. Friday, Aug. 21, 2015, at UnityPoint Health-Proctor in Peoria.
He was born Aug. 27, 1927, in Keokuk, Iowa, to Irwin and Ella (Ewing) Hedrick. He married Elva Longshore on March 27, 1949, in Keokuk, Iowa.
Surviving are his wife, Elva Hedrick of Morton; two daughters, Lynn (Steve) Herget of Hendersonville, N.C., and Gail Hedrick of Morton; and three granddaughters, Krystal Jacob, Jamie Herget and Jennifer Herget (Megan Denton).
He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Loren Fleshman; and one brother, Robert.
He was a World War II United States Navy veteran.
Dick worked for 25 years at CILCO, retiring in 1984 as a journeyman lineman. He later worked part time at Illini Golf in Peoria for 20 years.
He was a member of Washington VFW Post 9016.
Dick was a volunteer firefighter and EMT rescue squad member for the Morton Fire Department for 31 years, retiring in 1993. He also had served as a vice president of the department.
Cremation will be accorded. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2015, in Hirstein Cemetery in Morton, where military rites will be conducted by the United States Navy. There will be no visitation. Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Morton is handling arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the Morton Public Library.

Elva and family...so sorry to hear about Dick's passing. I have very fond memories tagging along with my dad, Ed Schmidgall, to the firehouse ALL the time..ha ha Dick was always there to harass me! :) of course, all the guys did! May God comfort you all in this sad time. God Bless
