Richard "Dick" Meismer
METAMORA - Richard A. "Dick" Meismer, 84, of Metamora, IL, passed away at 9:26 p.m. on Monday, August 21, 2017, at the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria.
He was born on July 30, 1933, in Metamora, IL, to Edmund L. and Matilda E. (Loser) Meismer. He married Bonnie E. Finch on January 31, 1959, in Metamora, IL. She survives.
Also surviving are his children, Micheal Meismer of Peoria, Linda (Gary) Guth of Germantown Hills, Deb (Dan) Scheirer of Metamora, John (Rhonda) Meismer of East Peoria and Peg (Ed) Sullivan of St. Charles, IL; ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and sisters, Doris Rodgers of Peoria, Gerry Miller of LaSalle, IL, and Evelyn "Evie" Schermer of Peoria.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Dick was a U.S. Air Force veteran, serving during the Korean War. He was an engineer at Caterpillar for 34 years. He was a member of American Legion Post 89 and St. Mary's Catholic Church in Metamora.
Dick was a true outdoors man. He loved hunting, fishing, woodworking and vegetable gardening. He especially enjoyed time spent with family.
The family would like to give special thanks to OSF Hospice and to Mike Guth for all the things he has done for Dick.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 25, 2017, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Metamora, with Father Vien Van Do officiating. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until service time on Friday at the church. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, with military rites accorded by American Legion Post 89.
