PEORIA - Rosalie Guy, 85, of Peoria passed away at 1:31 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2014, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center.
Rosalie was born on Jan. 6, 1929, in Colp, Ill., to Nanie Hickman and Andrew Perkins. She was raised by her uncle and aunt, William and Bessie (McKinney) Perkins. She married Leroy Guy Sr. on April 10, 1964. He preceded her in death on June 30, 2001.
Rosalie received her master's degree in education and taught grammar school for more than 30 years, retiring in 1984.
She was active in a number of community organizations, such as the Silver Star Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star and as secretary of the Retired Teachers Association.
She was a faithful member of Ward Chapel A.M.E. Church, where she sang in the chancel choir, was a church mother, stewardess and missionary.
Rosalie is survived by four sons, Mannie (Kattie) Russell Jr., Doyle Russell and Leroy Guy Jr., all of Peoria, and Lorenzo (Valleri) Guy of Chillicothe, Ill.; two daughters, Fay Guy of Duncanville, Texas, and Kay (Raymond) Young of Jackson, Tenn.; 17 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one sister.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 15, 2014, at Ward Chapel A.M.E. Church, with a visitation one hour prior beginning at 10 a.m. Pastor Elaine Gordon will officiate. Rosalie will be laid to rest in Swan Lake Memory Gardens. Simons Mortuary has been entrusted with arrangements.
