PEORIA - Ruby Doby, 86, of Peoria passed away Saturday, April 19, 2014, at UnityPoint Health-Methodist in Peoria, Ill.
She was born on Oct. 2, 1927, in Pine Bluff, Ark., to Cecil and Bessie Cox.
Ruby was known for her outstanding cooking and amazing bowling skills. She belonged to a bowling league for many years and could throw a mean strike.
She was a faithful member of New Morning Star Baptist Church, where she worshiped and loved God.
Ruby leaves behind to cherish her precious memories, one son, Jessie Wingo of Peoria, Ill.; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Ruby was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ernest Doby; two sons, Albert and Alfred Cox; and two brothers, Willard Roddy and Charles Cox.
A homegoing celebration for Mrs. Doby will be Friday, April 25, 2014, at New Morning Star Baptist Church in Peoria, Ill. Officiating services will be Pastor Thomas. Service will begin at 12 noon, with visitation commencing one hour prior at 11 a.m., with burial at Parkview Cemetery.
Arrangements were made especially for Ruby's family and professionally directed by T.W. Parks Colonial Chapel.
