Steven Buttice Obituary

Steven A. Buttice
EAST PEORIA - Steven A. Buttice, 67, of East Peoria, passed away on Feb. 3, 2021 at OSF Hospital in Peoria, from complications of Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis. Steven is fondly remembered by friends and family as a kind person who kept a positive outlook throughout life and during his terminal illness. He left behind a message of grace, hope, and love of God.
Steven was an avid sports fan and cheered for the Chicago Cubs as well as his alma mater, the University of Illinois, where he graduated with a degree in Landscaping Architecture and later returned for a certificate in Geriatric Management. He coached youth baseball, was a long-distance runner, and finished dozens of regional races including a half marathon. He was also a member of the Robein School Board.
Steven was born on September 17, 1953 to Benjamin and Lillian (Montalbano) Buttice in Rockford. In 1990, he founded his first company, Medical Reimbursement and Management Services. Later, he branched out into real estate and also started his second company, Living by Your Design, a senior living planning company. Steven married Linda Kay Burroughs in March 1991 and was honored to become the parent of three young girls, followed by the birth of his son Steven Buttice II.
Steven is survived by his children, Alliyah (Brian Valinski) Mirza of Santa Fe, NM, Anisah (Geoff Brengle) Mirza of Chicago, Miliah (Jake Wagner) Mirza of Elmwood, and Steve (Lindsay) Buttice II of Germantown Hills; and brother, Mark (Cheryl) Buttice of Timnath, CO; 3 grandchildren Farrah and Bruce Wagner, and Liam Buttice. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, James Buttice.

My deepest condolences to Steve’s family during such a difficult time. I am so very sorry for your loss. If children’s goodness is a reflection of the goodness of the father, Steve must have been an incredible person. It was my privilege to know him. My sympathies to you all.

I met Steve many years ago and we worked together in different groups. He was always quick to help and he never wanted any sort of recognition for his efforts. A true business man trying to help others. My condolences to his family during these difficult times. This man will be missed by many.

On Saturday January 23rd. I stopped by Steve’s house to help him with a few things. As we visited, he mentioned very little about his personal concerns but was eager to learn of how my dad is doing. He then inquired about myself and the family. This is how I’ve known Steve. Always concerned for others. His heart was huge! He had a love for others that was immeasurable. His kindness was one that we all should try to duplicate. I can’t say enough for how much he helped my family. His abilities and knowledge for assistance with my grandmother was just a start. He later blessed us with guidance that allowed wonderful care for my mother in the last few years of life. Words of caring can be easy to say but Steve had a gift for showing that love for others. He will be greatly missed by my family and me.

Steve was not only a good friend and mentor but a true gentleman--I had the honor of meeting him when I first moved to Peoria over 25 years ago from Cincinnati...he had an ad and column in a local monthly magazine and I contacted him...he offered as always wise counsel and was a forever friend and kind man...being from Rockford and I from Platteville, WI, we understood each other very well! I attended some of his seminars and stopped by to chat with him and staff and he assisted me in some health/financial matters which I valued immensely. I also knew him through the Central Illinois Agency on Aging where I volunteered (pre-pandemic) in family caregiving, my passion...I kept in touch with him on his voicemail when he went remote at his home....I was so so saddened to read of his passing this week. He was treasure to all who knew him and will be sorely missed by everyone....Thank you, Steven, for all you did for me and others.

Respectfully
