ELMWOOD - Steven F. Selman, 58, of rural Elmwood died at 8:10 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, 2010, at Proctor Hospital in Peoria.
He was born on Sept. 28, 1951, in Peoria to James Selman and Mariann (Seffer) Selman Herath. He married Sally Groeper on May 20, 1972, in Peoria. She survives.
He is also survived by three sons, Maj. Steven (Katie) Selman Jr. of Tampa, Fla., Scott Selman of Trivoli and Sean (Jennifer) Selman of Elmwood; two sisters; two brothers; and was the proud grandfather of nine grandchildren, Katya, 10, Julia, 9, Adrian, 8, Lisa, 7, Abbey, 5, twins Ryan & Lily, 3, and twins Juliette & Bradley, 2.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Steve was a 1969 graduate of Limestone Community High School and attended Illinois Central College.
He was a veteran of the Illinois Air National Guard in Bartonville.
Steve owned Pleasant Valley Egg Co. from 1980 to 1990. He then worked for American Pest Control until 1995. During this time, Steve and Sally remodeled an old 1950s barn for the RoadHouse Restaurant, opening on Dec. 31, 1995. The RoadHouse closed Dec. 31, 2010, due to Steve's sudden cancer illness.
Cremation rites have been accorded. The family will attend Mass on Saturday, Jan. 30, at 4 p.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Elmwood. Recitation of the rosary will follow at 5 p.m. at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Elmwood, with visitation following until 8 p.m.
