Sylvia Faw
TOLUCA - Sylvia Mae Faw of Toluca was born on November 2, 1927, to Frank and Sandrina (Carrara) Massino and entered eternal life on Saturday, May 28, 2016, at home, surrounded by her family.
Sylvia married Frank Faw on June 30, 1951, and resided in Toluca, Illinois, her entire life.
Sylvia is survived by her devoted husband, Frank (aka "Flea" and "Junior"); her son, Jerry Faw and daughter-in-law, Barbara (Bond) Faw, of Toluca; and daughter, Sandy (Faw) Szakach of New York City. She has one grandson, Jason Faw, who is to be married to Chelsey Snyder on June 4, both of Toluca. There are five surviving Massino brothers, Chester of Toluca, Joe of Hennepin, Larry of Villa Park, Gary of Ohio, Illinois, and Frank James of Morro Bay, California. Sylvia also has an extended family of relatives, friends, a Boston Terrier named Copper and devoted care workers who loved her like family.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, Michael James; and three siblings, Tony Massino, Angelina Healy and Rita Biagini.
Sylvia graduated from Toluca High School in 1945 and worked as a book keeper for Clanin Brothers from 1946 until she retired in 1987. She was a whiz with numbers and enjoyed her job. Sylvia's pride and joy was her grandson, Jason, whom she loved dearly. She was an avid tennis player, where her competitive nature was always on display even into her early 80s. Sylvia enjoyed golf and was the only person who would beat the ball to the hole when she putted. She enjoyed playing cards and always wore a good luck charm when playing slots. In addition to playing bocce ball, she was an excellent cook, specializing in fried chicken, lasagna and pizzelles. Sylvia was passionate about the Chicago Cubs, through thick or thin, and with her help from heaven, this could be the year for the Cubs to win the World Series.
Sylvia's celebration of life includes a visitation to be held at St. Ann's Hall in Toluca on Tuesday, May 31, from 4 to 7 p.m., with a rosary preceding at 3:45 p.m. Funeral services and mass will be held at St. Ann's Catholic Church on Wednesday, June 1, at 10:30 a.m., with a viewing at 10 a.m. Franciscan Friars will officate.
