Sylvia I. Small
METAMORA - Sylvia I. Small, 86, of Metamora, IL, passed away at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday, February 7, 2017, at Snyder Village in Metamora.
She was born on July 9, 1930, in Tazewell County, IL, to Theodore and Irene (Marchand) Alig. She married Ralph C. Small on September 24, 1949, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Metamora. He passed away on November 6, 2008.
Surviving are her daughter, Irena Smith of Florida; granddaughter, Jill Reece of Chicago; and siblings, Genevieve (the late Kenneth) Willman, Carol (Robert) Heinz and Renee (Elmer) Grebner. all of Metamora, Leah (Paul) Molloy of Washington, Elaine (Robert) Kapraun of El Paso, Myrna (Willie) Davis of Parumph, NV, and John (Anna) Alig of Eureka; sister-in-law, Marilyn Alig of Metamora; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Ted Alig.
Sylvia was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Altar and Rosary Society in Metamora, Woodford County Historical Society, Metamora Association for Historic Preservation and Modern Woodman. She was employed by Paul's Grocery, the Metamora Post Office and St. Mary's Catholic Church. She also spent many days greeting visitors at the Lee Log Cabin. She was also a supporter of the Crazy Horse Monument. Sylvia was the genealogist for the Alig family.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on today, February 10, 2017, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Metamora, with Father Greg Jozefiak officiating. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until mass time at the church. Cremation rites will be accorded after mass and burial of ashes will be held at a later date at St. Mary's Cemetery in Metamora.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Mary's School or Snyder Village Hall 2.
