HOPEDALE - Walter E. Litwiller, 72, of Hopedale passed away at 5:28 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14, 2011, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
He was born March 18, 1939, in rural Hopedale to Ervin and Kathryn Vietta King Litwiller. He married Janice K. Horsch on Nov. 6, 1960, and they were blessed with over 50 years of marriage.
Surviving are his wife of Hopedale; one son, Evan (Karla) Litwiller of Tremont; one daughter, Tonya (Travis) Unruh of Washington; seven grandchildren; one sister, Viola Graber of Delavan; two brothers, Willis (Marilyn) Litwiller of Hopedale and Delton (Bernadine) Litwiller of Emden; and many nieces and nephews.
Wally last worked for the Illinois Department of Conservation as Conservation Police Sergeant. He worked for the State of Illinois for a total of 30 years, retiring in 1991.
He enjoyed the outdoors, especially his cabin in Wisconsin. He loved to fish with his grandchildren.
He was a member of Hopedale Mennonite Church, where his funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wedneday, Oct. 19. Pastors Kurt Walker and Roger Springer will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18, at Davis Mortuary in Hopedale. Burial will be in Mennonite Cemetery near Hopedale.
