EAST PEORIA - William "Bill" Hunter Marshall, 77, of East Peoria died at 2:28 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, 2008, at Riverview Care Center in East Peoria.
He was born Dec. 15, 1930, in Bloomington, Ill., to William C. and Ida Marshall. He married Opal Darlene Uphoff on Nov. 1, 1953, in Benson, Ill.
Surviving are his wife, Opal of East Peoria; one son, Ron Marshall of Murphysboro, Ill.; three daughters, Debra (Mike) Son of Carthage, Ill., Janet (Norm) Harlan of East Peoria and Lisa (Chuck) Friend of East Peoria; and eight grandchildren, Christina (Corey) Schroeter, Shena Friend, Leah and Bethany Harlan, David (Amanda) Son, James and Rachel Son and Jeremy Marshall.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Bill was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during World War II.
Bill was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Washington.
He worked for TP&W Railroad in East Peoria, where he retired as a yard master after more than 50 years of service.
He enjoyed playing cards, dancing, fishing and bowling, as well as watching the Cubs and Cardinals baseball games. Bill was a devoted husband and father, and will be greatly missed.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, at Deiters Funeral Home in East Peoria. Pastor John Rothfusz will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Clayton Township Cemetery in Benson, Ill.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Faith Lutheran Church Building Fund or to the charity of the donor's choice.
