MSGT James John Selter died suddenly of an apparent heart attack on June 4, 2012 at the age of 52. James was born at the Walson Army Hospital, Fort Dix New Jersey on June 1, 1960. He attended Wheatland Elementary and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1978. At the age of 19 he entered the United States Air Force and served 22 years as an Aircraft Electrical and Environmental Systems Specialist, stationed in South East Asia, England, and The Middle East, decorated with numerous medals.
Upon retirement from the service, James married Susan Morrison in 2000, moved to Humboldt County, graduated from Humboldt State University with Honors, and was employed by Sky West Airlines at the time of his death.
James is survived by his wife Susan Morrison; his step-son, Matthew Morrison; his daughter, Christine (Osha) Meisel; his grandson, Wyatt James Meisel; his mother, Janeth Selter; his brothers, George (Heidi), Bruce (Angie), and Scott (Liz) Selter; along with numerous nieces and nephews. James was preceded in death by his father MSGT James W. Selter in 2009.
James' life will be commemorated with a number of services, both public and private. On Saturday June 23, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. at Stewart Hall in Sheridan, California family and friends are invited to a celebration of James' life. A dedication of his ashes in Trinidad, California will follow at an announced time. A military interment at the Sacramento Valley VA National Cemetery in Dixon, California will also be announced at a later date.

Judy and I are saddened to learn about the death of James Selter. We knew his parents well through Lincoln Little League. Like James and his father, I am a retired USAF MSgt.
