Bertha Yackovetsky Obituary

Bertha L. Yackovetsky, 84, of Macungie died Thursday, Dec. 18, at Village at Willow Lane.

She was the widow of Samuel Yackovetsky, who died in December 1968.

Born in Shenandoah on Sept. 2, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Stella (Shalabuda) Sosna.

Betty trained to be a registered nurse. During World War II, she was a U.S. Army nurse instructor. Thereafter, she worked at Chicago Medical Center, Bellvue Hospital in New York City and Jamaica Hospital in New York City. She retired from Pocono Medical Center in East Stroudsburg, where she was a maternity nurse.

She was a member of the Polish National Catholic Church.

She is survived by a daughter, Mary Yackovestsky; a son, Robert Yackovetsky and his wife, Joan; a sister, Mary Stukas; a grandson, Edwin C. Hill and his wife, Samantha; a granddaughter, Joanne Oliver; and a great-grandson, Kalvin Oliver and his wife, Stephanie.

She was preceeded in death by her husband, Samuel; a son, John; brothers John and Frank; and sisters Adell, Stella, Helen and Florence.

Services will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23, at Boyko Funeral Home, Macungie.

Mary & Bob,I was so sorry to hear of Betty's passing. She was a great nurse & a good friend. She taught me alot at work. I know that she is in peace now & back in control.
